It is strange how everyone is drawing their own conclusion, but what everyone needs to understand that NO acts of violence or abuse should be tolerated! Period. If in fact these girls were being abused physically by their mother, as one of the daughter's had confided in my son, then the mother should have been stopped before this tragedy happened. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. Let the authorities do their job. Abuse is a vicious cycle and keep in mind that these girls may have been afraid to tell anybody as one daughter confided in my son. Most likely because if the mother found out, as in most cases, the abuse would resurface and become worse. Don't assume... allow the professionals to do their job and run a complete investigation in this very tragic event.
Aren't you assuming?

Besides, even if she were abusing them,(and yes, that's very very wrong), does not give those children the right to KILL her.

I wonder what you would say if you felt your life was in danger ... abuse IS wrong no matter what and yes it does not give the children the right to kill, but this lady was an adult and supposedly a former psychotherapist (scary thought) the burden was on her to provide a safe home.

Sure it was her burden. And if you don't want folks to judge, don't judge yourself. I am a victim a child abuse, and I didn't kill my mother because of it. There is no excuse for that kind of death. If the children were that fearful, there are school counselors and other folks they could have easily gone to without fear of retaliation. Murder is not the answer to abuse!!!

I am terribly sorry that you had that horrible experience yourself. However, do you even know how many times BEFORE the actual tragic day these children ran to neighbors asking for help? Did you know that a few weeks before they pleaded with a police officer who came to the house not to send them back?
Again, I am not justifying killing anyone. I am just as appalled as anyone that things had to end up the way they did... It is just very disturbing for me to see that people were so quick to demonize these girls many times on the basis of mere hearsay.

Strangulation is not hearsay, it's the result of the autopsy reports. It's murder. No matter what their circumstances were. Like I said, you or anyone else has no idea of the abuse I've faced in my life. Putting that aside, I still never killed anyone. That's not to say I didn't want to. Yes, it's pretty damned hard to go through life everyday with the fear of mental and physical abuse, and the possible fear for your life, but that doesn't give them the right to kill her. Period.

Innocent until proven guilty. You call it murder, the police are still reluctant to do so. Unless you can prove to me that you were there inside those doors and actually experienced what they all experienced your opinion, just like mine, remains mere hearsay. Your past experience with abuse notwithstanding, and with all due respect, you simple do not have all the facts.

These girls have never been physically abused. We can confirm as well can the neighbors that these kids never ever displayed any sign of physical abused. Muriel has punished the kids for wrong doings by taking away for instance cell phones, computer access rights, etc. but she never physically punished them.
Two weeks before her death we were drinking Martinis at Muriel's house and we realized that the Wodka had been temoered with and contained a foreign substance that gave it a weird taste.

So did ya'll do anything when the vodka tasted "weird"? There was also a report that she called DFACS about that same possibility. She should have called the police.
Anyway, why haven't we heard anything about this? First the democratic primary, now the JonBenet Ramsey thing. When do the local folks get to find out the truth in their own communities?

We are all devastated and shocked in CA. No one here to my knowledge is in touch with her family and we are wondering how they are doing; and how are all of her pets?

From A friend of a grieving friend:
The abuse story was a lie told by the second girl she adopted to harm her mother. Muriel informed my friend of the problems with the girl. Please do not generate stories about an unfortunate woman who met a horrible death and is greatly missed by her friends and family.

I confirm this as well. Hollering abuse were the teens way to set up Muriel. Muriel was the innocent victim here and we are devastated by her loss. The public does not have all the information like the family and friends. That is why it hurts to hear the lies of the girls. The truth will prevail.

I think what gets me is the fact that these girls, being juvenilles, will only get one year for their wrong doings. I think that they should be tried as an adult...Let's face it, they were certainly thinking like an adult would to stage such a horrendous murder...then tamper with the crime scene....God help us all!! My thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family...I live barely 2 miles from her home and I am in law enforcement...I deal with these sort of people everyday.... These girls need to be punished for what they did and 1 year is not enough!!

The pets are al taken care of. One cat was adopted, the other cats are up for adoption at the humane society. Lillie the black Dachshund wwas adopted by the vet's technician and I delivered Luna the Chihuahua to her new home in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.
Everybody is shocked. Her cousin is cleaning out the house and handles all the matters regarding to her will. It was one hectic week but we got everything taking care of.

Just wait for the toxocology report to come back. Eventually they will be tried as adults. These charges are only charges to be able to hold them in detention.

Did you know that when the police explained to one of the girls that she would be removed from the house based on the accusations, that she retracted her story and once she was picked up, the other girl retracted hers as well? If there really was abuse in that house, do you think they would have gone back if they had an out? There are no reports of abuse, no markings, bruises or anything of that sort to back up the story of 2 teenage girls who were causing all sorts of havoc in this poor woman's life.
