I moved from Lawrenceville about 6 years ago. It was a nice town then. I had all three of my kids there. It was a pleasant place to be. It seems that it has become a crime haven.

What happened??????????
How could it have changed so drastically???????

I also moved from Lawrenceville in 2003, and at the time was dreading coming to the North Ga. Mountains. I knew I would miss all of the convinences and always considered myself a city girl. But now I am so glad I'm not there. My girls are straight A students w/ none of the pressure you see in a big school. We were in the Collins Hill district and from what I have seen and heard it has gone to hell. I really loved the area and hate to see it like it is now. Good luck to everyone!

We went to Sonny's last Saturday Night in Lawrenceville, it was practically empty. It used to be wall to wall customers.

Has everyone left who used to eat there? Scary...no car traffic in the area either. I can't believe it is just the recession?

Lawrenceville has had a lot of illegal immigrants move in and with that they've brought their drugs and crime. It's not all of them, but a good amount. It's very sad to see what has happened to this cute little town. We are stuck and can't get our home sold b/c of all the foreclosures. It's sad that I have to work extra hours just so I can afford to send my child to a private school so he gets a good education and is safe. I went to school in the ghetto and felt more safe than I do now.

I just recently moved to florida from Lawrenceville. I lived in Lawrenceville since I was born that is 19 years in the same house. It may have gone bad but once you leave you will for sure miss everything about it. Lawrenceville just needs its people to rebuilt it not abandon it. Look how great the town square turned out. Before it was just little shops no one would really wanna go into, now it has resturants that bring in revenue.

We left Lawrenceville in 2001, after living there since 1986. We are now in Walton County. Lawrenceville has become such a sh** hole!! I used to love this little town, and now it is so horrible. I travel to Lawrenceville to work weekly. It is true all of the illegals that have moved in have made lawrenceville the place no one wants to live now... I am sure some of you are going to disagree and call me a racist, but its the gods honest truth. When there are 100 illegals standing around the QT in the morning and cops out patroling them at 0700. They are walking across HWY 20 and pushing babies and dragging kids behind them, it just looks horrible!

To muck black crime! Dope runs rampant. I am seeing white trash (outsiders) that have moved in become the trash of the town! They run with gigs, dope and raise hell. This is not a true Southerner! We were not raised like that.

I moved to Lawrenceville in 1996. It was great. In the last few years its gotten tough to be here. Gangs ,drugs ,etc. The Police & Fire are stretched to the limits. And now we have cutbacks. I can't see it getting better till we start helping the emergency services people.

Maybe, just maybe it's because your business fell to the ground...meaning that YOU and only you failed. I think the best thing for you to do would be to get out of Lawrenceville so you don't have to walk around with your head looking at the floor and you possibly could live life not screwing people over and making up bull^&*% lies about them...Larenceville is a very nice place to live and Top Hat is right, the dope is still here, but ya know, when your friends with the police and they don't hate you, it's a beautiful place to be.

The North Georgia mountains are the drug capital of GEORGA.. i.e Toccoa is where 70 % of all dope in the state is dropped..Has been for yeaqrs so running to the hillsx thinking you are so safe is a lie they'd like you to believe..Some of you who are locals might remember when a huge drop of cocaine was dropped in a farmers field and he found several of his cows dead..Well they died of an overdose of Cocaine..

Yep the good ole quite N. GEORGIA MOUNTAINS HOME OF THE BIGGEST LOAD OF DOPE IN GA...GOTTA LOVE IT..JUST THINK YOU TUCKED TAIL AND RAN FROM L'VILLE..LAUGHABLE..

The way some of you complain about so - called "illegals," I bet you wish you'd have supported those KKK guys back in the 1980s and 1990s when they were soliciting for money on the town square every weekend

I'd like to think those days are behind us. There's no roon in this city or world for people who hate just to be hating. There are 2 sides to the illegal problems. When our Governor passed a law making "all" of them criminals and not allowing them to buy cars and get a drivers license what did everyone think they would do. I told a friend with the DEA the day the law passed that we just forced family men to become drug dealers. And it happened just like that. I can see both sides of the situation. They aren't going back. They have roots here. Some are just doing what they have to to feed their family. Now they take up a big chunk of our Police department's resources at a time when they are too stretched anyway. I believe that everyone should be here legally but they should have made a way to make the ones that were not a problem citizens. I knew some of them and they were just good hard working families. Now they are what we made them. Deport the real criminals (I'd like to send some of ours too) and offer some options to the ones that add quality to our area. My 2 cents of course.

One more thing. If you already don't like what they do with your tax dollars in Gwinnett then get on some of these forums and be heard. They want to raise your taxes by 1/3 right now.

Lawrenceville is a shithole because our elected officials were to busy stuffing their pockets with cash to worry about what was happening to our communities. All the growth brought in all the illegals, and they never left. We must rid ourselves of all of Gwinnetts elected officials and start over. W@e should start with our corrupt county commissioners. Most are not running for election again. They are all being investigated by a special grand jury for possible illegal land purchases. What a pile of worthless dog shit we have representing us. Good-by and good riddance!

I agree with almost all you said. The illegals are not the problem. Its the high density zoning. The big problem with the grand jury investigating the corruption is the DA is in charge of it. And he in my opinion is far worse than they are.He won't do anything that doesn't benefit him.
