I am not sure it matters. Many years ago general cable started buying cable businesses all around the world neglecting it's North American business. while everyone else was headed for wireless, General cable was investing in third world countries and other nations solidifying its hold in the copper cable business around the world at the expense of the north american business. They even invested in countries that the United States government warned had terrible civil rights abuses. Some countries even use child soldiers in their internal strifes. GCC only cares about the bottom line. Their employees have become only numbers. When the union tried to come in, GCC warned that the emplolyees would lose many rights. The union failed, but now management is taking away those same rights they said the union would lose for the emplolyees. It is amazing that many of the employees are not able to see the forrest for the trees. If some of these cowards had been living during the American revolution, we would still be saying, "God save the Queen."

I don't. I know they let two management personnel go this morning. One had been there about 35 years. I know that gcc is now implementing rules and changes that GCC said the union would do. While the unio n was campaigning employees were getting good bonuses. Now the bonuses amount to pocket change. the people have no one to protect them.

I''m sorry. The first sentence was meant to be "I don't know." the way I typed it gave it a different meaning. sorry about that.

whatever they are going to do, they already know. The employees won't know until the last minute. The company is already implementing policies they said the union wuold bring in. A lot of employees think that now that the union can't campaign for another year, the company is implementing policies they can hold on to if the union comes back. Many of the workers feel they are being punished. Now the supervisors are catching h***. It's about time they paid the piper also. Cable doesn't hire supervisors unless they are "company people". There are a few young supers who stabbed their fellow workers in the back as soon as they were promoted. That Sutherland boy is one name that surfaces regular when the subject is approached. but when the time comes the company will drop him also. Bet he's scared of the idea of coming back to the floor. He'll get what he deserves probably. And that is a firing. It's really a shame what they can get away with here in KY. Many employees are wishing they had re-thought the union. I hate to say it but it's too late. Folks, people have to take a stand. Do you think the CEO's are doing without? Of course not. We get what we ask for sometimes. they should have laid off enough people so that those left could make their regular salary with no layoffs every few weeks. People are losing their homes out there while management goes on as usual. The many are being punished to save the few. Cable tells you they are trying to save jobs. What they are really trying to do is cover their a** in case they need to ramp of production quickly. In the meantime people are losing their homes while fat cat CEO's are living high on the hog. How can so many people be so stupid and lead their fellow employees into the poor house. There are some people who need to be culled from the herd out there anyway. They need to get rid of some of those part-time farmers who are working there to save their farms. lousy farmers make lousy cable makers. if you can't save the farm, get out of it. run for office like that s****** man and let real workers have a job. One young idiot said he didn't need a union because he had worked on his family farm and never needed a union. well, son, whenever you wanted off "daddy" gave you some money and let you go. You aren't working for "daddy" now you idiot and he couldn't make enough money on the farm to keep the family fed evidently. See if the company takes care of you the next layoff. sometimes the truth hurts.

why would union have changed anything? if the biz is having problems, they make cutbacks....union cant stop that. it sucks and i mean no disrespect to them and i would hate to see it close for the families who depend on those jobs but union wouldnt fix it. it is a national problem.....global problem....i dont think we need unions anymore at all, perhaps even part of the problems we have......at one time we needed them, before there were laws to protect employees rights but those times are over.

u need to study yur history, union. The only reason we have what we have today is because of unions. look it up. check it out on the internet. those times aren't over. it comes in cycles. they'll be back. the union could not have protected everyone. but they could have saved the majority and that is what is necessary. "who cares" is right. the company is trying to protect its own butt. some of the maintenance guys voted against union because they have had it made for years. People like Kevin M. and Stevie K. would not even be there. Yet those people have sucked money out of gcc for years. so have some of those older maintenance guys. there are some good ones out there. even frank g. admitted that if the union comes in the electricians would have to actually work. he said that bill was not a hands-on boss and really did not know what was going on. if someone came in that knew how to run that department the pople might really have to work. not every nazi believed in hitler, but as long as hitler was in power it suited some of the people's purpose. i hate to say it, but some of those people at gcc have no cajones except for management's in their mouth. from what i hear they are now getting what they wanted and deserved, especially those people in computer cable who didn't care when the telephone cable lost their salaries. someone said that place is filled with wh****, bores, and rednecks galore, but I know there are some good people out there who stood up and laid their lives and jobs on the line and were stabbed in the back. for you people who didn't back them up, the hottest rooms in hell are set aside for people woith no backbone. i hope their children have a great christmas. i guarantee management and ceo children will have a great one.

Well for one the union might not been able to help but there again they could have helped negiotiate a plan and also we could have been able to get union benefits that the company didn't let no one no about now all were stuck with is what the company wants us to do. At most union companies they have Negioations were they have to give them there full salery for a certain number of weeks they can't work u one week then lay you off and draw unemployment the company would have to match what you were makin this is just a couple of the benefits that a union brings when it comes to closing the door what is everyone going to get nada nadathing and there's nothing we can say

Friends: have been reading input. argument is moot at this point, however, I work there and feel I can input also. "Because" and "who cares" may be over the top somewhat, but this is an emotional topic as well as time. I am not a union advocate, however, it is true tht the working man would not have what we have today if the unions had not been so adament in their situations. You know the term "redneck" came from a group of union coal miners who maarched across the mountains from the virginias to help organize miners in other states who were being used and abused. they wore bandannas, red, around their necks so they would not shoot each other. There were thousands and they fought a gun battle with the government who were out-numbered. The government dropped bombs in areas inhabited by innocent women and children. Out west govlernment soldiers were sent in to stop a strike and shot innocent men, women, and children. This is documented. But what really saddeneds me is that the premise department turned their backs on OVD when OVD was losing hours and salary. These people on both sides are our brothers and sisters, and premise chose to ignore the OVD pleas for some help. I know this because I work there and saw it happen. Premise sold OVD out and would gladly have watched OVD lose their jobs in order for premise employees to keep on working. Not all of premise felt that way, however, many of the employees in premise were afraid to speak up because they wee afraid their premise co-workers would turm on them. How sad. And even sadder that the company,(cable management and supervisors) allowed this to happen,(whether they admit it or not), and condones it to further their own agenda. People, we should be ashamed of ourselves. I know good people on both sides and I am saddened that cable is not now, nor will it ever be the same place. I happen to know that some innocent people were blamed for the union being there when, in actuality, the maintenance department brought the union in in the first place a long time ago and was behind it this time also. And those crybabies in Premise helped instigate hatred and hate-talk against some good people who were only trying to do what they thought was right for everyone. In the end only the company won and now it appears they are doing exactly what they said would happen if the union came in. folks, we were hoodwinked and turned against our own because of it. Everyone have a great day.

My dad has worked in maintenance at General Cable for years. I do not appreciate your generalization of all or most of the maintenace workers there. My dad has worked his a$$ off there. He has worked 15 plus hour days, been called out in the middle of the night, worked on holidays, you name it. You may want to learn to think before you speak!

Because are you an employee of GCC or just know alot about the place? Sounds like to me you have a real beef with the maintenance men out there. In your quote it sounds like you got a little p***ed because not everyone wanted the union in there. Whatever happened to freedom of choice. Just because you had your reasons for wanting the union, not everyone may have felt the same way you did about it. It sounds like to me if you are an employee and it is that bad out there maybe you should find you a new place of employment. Sounds like you have a problem or don't like half of the employees that are out there. So you got to wonder is it everyone else or is it maybe just you! You might try reading and following a little piece of your quote " the hottest rooms in hell are set aside for people with no backbone" instead of typing on here how you feel you might try getting a backbone and actually coming face to face with some of these people whom you have typed about. It sounds like your one of those type of employees who do nothing but B**** about everything and make all the others suffer with you. The best advice for you is if your an employee be thankful you still have a job and start worrying about yourself and not so much about everyone else. What sounds so funny to me is that if alot of the maintenance men wouldn't still be there if the union got in, is how is the factory still there period then because if they weren't there to fix the machines ,how would things run? So apparently they are doing something to deserve sucking a little money then. It's not called having it made, it's called working. If you would try it, you might not be all for the union.

no one deseerves to suck the livelyhood from a sinking ship. that is what Highland Heights is doing. I did come face-to-face. some of them are great and much appreciated. Some are not. You, yourself wuold make a good loyal subject for the Queen, it sounds like. Have a great day and when your budget gets tight call for help from GCC, I found my way out. Have a great day.

Pisces

Mercury's retro phase in Capricorn will raise questions in your mind about a friend or loved one during the next two weeks. You might wonder what they're playing at and have to ask them to be straight with you, or you could work hard at overcoming the current problems between you so you're able to enter a much more positive phase in your relationship.
