HALEY, YOU ARE SO RIGHT ABOUT UNNECESSARY UTHINASIA (putting an animal to sleep/death). I am so glad to see you care enough to "responibily" get involved. Let me see if I can make some sense of the situation. My daughter & son-in-law had an Amer. Pittbull when they got married. He was a good dog and very loyal. He was certain death to any animal or stranger who entered his area without one of them there as he was very loyal and protective.(he was just doing his job protecting them). Problem was, when he bitesor warns, it hurts much more than if he were a poodle....LOL. When they moved to town around alot of people, he was old and died a natural death. They chose not to get another Pittbull as they were going to start a family and have many guests and visitors and this type of dog was just to protective and could be dangerous if he chose to. Many good Pitts have been made bad by bad people. Some Pitts just don't want to learn and adjust as does any breed, but because of their size and ability it makes them a dangerous unpredicitable rogue. Not all people are good, and not all are bad. Some understand better than others and do not act in an extreem manner. People are people and when they become irrational to "kill all the pitts" this is where you need to speak up but remembering that even though yours is nice, there are some problems. It is your wisdom and understanding of both sides that will make the difference to finding a logical solution to best work and protect the community from stupid"over re-acting people and the dangerous rouges who are dangerous to people and other pets in your community. "Little wise one" you are the answer, not part of the problem! Keep up the good work!

The list could go on forever, and many dogs have had their day in the "hot" or "dangerous" light. Remember the scare with doberman pinchers... Come on, there brains swelling... OH, and Kujo the St. Bernard... "rabies" not the breed... YES, some pit bulls are protective but most are not human agressive if socialized early and raised as a pet. I'm kind of old so I've had a few different pets... Currently, I have a Pit and he's my son's baseball teams mascot, loves EVERYONE, and only our neighbors cat and wild bunnies should fear him.(well, and maybe the squirrel that waits every morning for him) that's quite a sight and another story... The Rott I had was more laid back, and the meanest dog I had was a Yorkie Terrier... So, just like people these dogs can display a wide range of personality and temperment traights.
Unless an intruder was violent, I have a feeling my pit would just want to wiggle and be petted... I do hope he might intimidate an intruder by looks... but really, he's just not aggresive.
HE's five now, pretty predictible, and yes... still athletic. Just wanted to stress that not all Pitbulls are rouges. I find a real problem with banning, killing, or destroying all of a certain breed because of irresponsible owners.
