Didn't the city just close a bunch of cheap hotels like this due to the crime they attract?

This is yet another eyesore along Pendleton Pike!!! I thought Lawrence was trying to creat a "nice, quiant" city. Well, so much for that. I just hope Mayor Ricketts will try to bring nicer businesses to the area. No more extended stay "slum-tels", check cashing, pawn shops, strip clubs, etc.

Well at least now the illegal immigrants will have some place they can afford. There goes the neighborhood.

I LIVE RIGHT DOWN THE STREET FROM THERE AND I AGREEE IT LOOKS LIKE ITS GONNA BE A ROACH COACH MOTEL
Who in the hell wants to stay for a week in Lawrence?
Yeah, these hotels attract drug activity along with a slew of other problems. If this were upscale, like for families in transition until their houses are built, fine. But at $189/week, that's not possible. That's less than my rent! Hotels like this are bad news.

perhaps the Carmel chickens can go there and stay once they get thrown out of Carmel.

At one time, wasn't Lawrence a desirable place to live? The city truly is moving North. Not by desire, but rather by necessity. If we stay in the city, thanks to "businesses" such as this, before long the market value of all property will hit zero.

A friend of mine worked as a Narcotics Officer for several years. When they were bored/slow with other areas, they would find themselves sitting in the parking lot of an "extended stay motel" on Pendelton Pike and Post Rd. From my understanding they never once left without having made multiple arrests. Never anything soft like pot, always heroin and meth.
This is simply one more slap in the face for quality Lawrence citizens. |

Will things ever turn aroUnd for Lawrence!! I keep hoping that someone with a vision would make improvements for our city! This deffinatly is not it!This type of establishment only atracts the kind of business we don't want!

finally a place where the recently divorced can gather and lament their broken marriages!
I can see this working out real well.
Agreed. Who thought this was a good idea?
they should call it heroin place.
Put a hog farm there instead

A rezoning petition has been filed to allow a Value Place at Rockville Road and Country Club Road. Just what Wayne Township needs...let's fight it!

www.valueplace.com
I looked at their website - this isn't an hourly motel kind of place. This is a more value-priced version of some of the other extended stay hotels that dot the city. |
Yes, but most people don't stay in an extended stay hotel. This is not marketed towards business travelers, who likely are having the company pick up the tab. And in Lawrence--especially the part of town it's in--it is sure to become something less-than-desirable |
I believe you were refering to the American Inns, of which there were 3 in the county. Before they were bought by people you would expect to answer phones in the call centers, they WERE half way decent, for a resonable price. However, I agree that weekly/monthly rate motels attract the wrong kind of trade.

There will also be one at Washington and I465 on the east side where the old Laughner's was. The city seems to think these are a good idea.
The primary clientele are construction workers. But with the construction boom turning to bust the new clientele will be less desirable. |
