The CVUSD will never get ahead if they always stop and get sidetracked by the shenanigans that these teachers keep doing. A very clear reminder of how these teacher's unions keep meddling in Board affairs is when they supported an eighteen year old for school board a few years back. The kid wasnt even going to college, had no car to go to board meetings, and his cognitive and communicative skills were that of an eight grader. Mr. Talaveras and Mr. Salas along with the Teachers unions are definitely not looking to move the school district forward, they are acting like a bunch of cry babies.. On, the other hand, Mr. Fernandez, Ms. Ramos and the other two lady board members are sticking their necks out to better the situation. Keep moving forward and stand firm on your decisions! Centinela Valley needs to get back on its feet and doesnt deserve to get knocked down by those other idiots.

(Inside school admin office) Hey Ted Yeah Bill You know originally how we thought we could only really afford to let go 5 percent of the teachers. yeah you said that it would collapse if we fired more than that. well by 20 percent of the teachers refusing to work on Monday I'm almost certain we can afford to let 10 percent go. ha well isn't that ironic.

It is unfortunate that teachers are being portrayed as "playing hooky," and that Fernandez states the action was instigated by a "splinter group" of teachers. With over 20%(and according to my calculations it was 30%) participating, far more than a splinter of the staff felt the need to protest in such a way that the media would cover this story. Sadly, Fernandez' comment demonstrates how little he values his staff and their concerns. Do YOU want to know more about why such a huge number of teachers actively protested? Do you want to know what specific CORRUPTION teachers were protesting? Check out THE BLOG: http://stopthecorruptionincvuhsd.blogspot.com...

I appreciate your comments (if you are not a board member in disguise) but you are obviously misinformed. If you were to attend just one board meeting, you would see the abuses being committed by the board and superintendent.

Thank you so much concerned mom!! Please know that your support in this fight is ALL we need to challenge our district leaders' mismanagement of your tax dollars and, more importantly, lack of support for your students' learning! We hope you get involved and join us at the next board meeting! Knowledge is power- please share the blog with any other parent you know. Once people see what he has done with their money and their students' education, we hope they will also be motivated to support us.

I'm very much disappointed in the lack of "journalism" presented in this article. Mr. Vu, shouldn't you as a journalist present the news without any biased opinions?

The school board still needs to explain why they never even bothered to search for a body of candidates from whom to choose a permanent superintendent, especially since the interim sup they promoted to permanent had previously said publicly to teachers that he didn't even want the job, that he was just filling in on an emergency basis. Don't open the job to other applicants -- just hire the guy who "doesn't want the job"? Am I taking crazy pills? Plus, they had the nerve to give him a raise during a time when so many teachers are being laid off. They better lower his salary below what it was BEFORE his raise, or it's going to continue to smell fishier than [hygeine-deprived gender-specific body part deleted]. Let them give him a raise AFTER he's heroically pulled the district's books out of the john.

Congratulations to the approximate 80% of the teachers in CV who chose to continue to teach our students yesterday, despite the difference of opinion with some of our district officials! The MAJORITY realize that our students come first. Keep up the great work you do on a daily basis for those that matter the most.

Think of the Children....Waaaaaaa Think of your neighbors, if you can't afford to send your kids to school or you can't spend enough time to monitor your children.....WAIT FOR IT......THEN DON'T HAVE CHILDREN!! And if you do have children, make sure they are polite and well behaved, that way if they happen to be in a classroom with a few more children it won't make a difference because all the children are listening and behaving. And for God's sake don't let your children affect my rant's and computer time.

I just want to clarify to this CV Supporter- the 30% of teachers who did take the day off did it because they were fighting for their students. If you took the time to find out what was really happening in CV you would also see why it was necessary to take such a drastic action. We are having a very informative and constructive dialogue about it on the following site: http://stopthecorruptionincvuhsd.blogspot.com... I'm glad you are a CV supporter and student advocate. We need more of you!! and we need to make sure you know the WHOLE story.

The MAJORITY realize that our students come first. Not necessarily. Yes, many teachers came to work because they didn't want to leave their students behind, but some who had planned to take the day off didn't do so because they got scared off from the union president's email threat that the union won't protect them should there be any repercussion or out of fear that they won't be rehired back (if they're pink-slipped).

As a former graduate of Leuzinger High School and educational advocate I believe that our School Board President Ramos and School Boardmembers Suarez and Pizano are leading the way at improving our children’s education. Let’s don’t forget that our Superintendent Fernandez and School Board Members Ramos, Suarez, and Pizano inherited a financial crisis of the District by Superintendent Julian Lopez and Cheryl White and former School Board Presidents Maria Calix and Mario Chiappe. I urge the community to provide support to Superintendent Fernandez and School Board Members Ramos, Suarez and Pizano because they have brought sound fiscal management and accountability to reduce the number of administrative bureaucrats (non classroom teachers) and increase student performance.

To the former Leuzinger Student - Suarez is behind the "letting go" (systematic discouragement and harassment) of the former principal Sonia Miller, who while not perfect is a thousand times better than her replacement, Mr. Jobes, who has lost almost all teacher support. Mr. Jobes had NO experience as a principal before being put into that position, and ONE YEAR as an associate principal at Lawndale. Is our board making sure our district hires qualified, competent people? She also pushed out Oscar Cisneros. There are numerous complaints about the appearance of the school. These complaints did not occur under Cisneros who handled operations meticulously. Are her hiring decisions positively impacting the schools? The answer is an emphatic NO. To make matter worse she was told by teachers NOT to let these people go. She was told they were effective. But instead of listening to teachers, who worked with Ms. Miller and Mr. Cisneros every day, she went on her own limited experience. She took a good educational leader and replaced her with a mistake. She took another effective administrator and let him go as well. As a former Leuzinger graduate you should be outraged. What else has this illustrious board done? They've hired a Superintendent who, like their principal hire at Leuzinger, HAS NO EXPERIENCE. Urban education is difficult enough as it is. Do we really need to compound that by bringing in people who have never done the job before? Further, did they not have the opportunity to bring in people with experience? Of course they did, and they were asked to do a comprehensive search for the best candidate available for our students. They were told to do a comprehensive search by the Superintendent of the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Did they do one? N-O. I believe our students deserve the best. Our board who you commend in your post do NOT demonstrate that our students deserve the best. While I appreciate you voicing your opinion, I would strongly urge you to provide some reasons and evidence to back it up. Perhaps you are privy to some things we do not know. The truth of the matter is that I can give several more examples of the incompetence demonstrated by this board and the current superintendent. It is an absolute tragedy.

LMAO......You CANNOT be serious???? You must be related to one of these people or at least getting some kickbacks somewhere....They may have "inherited" this problem, BUT they have also done nothing to improve it or fix it......They were forced to "try" and make fiscal improvements, didnt work....And they DO NOT care about OUR kids, they are in it for themselves....Please know the facts before you try to shine sunlight up my rear end!!!
