Not only does The Town of Pembroke not have adequate Fire Protection; It also does not have adequate Rescue Service. Pembroke Rescue Squad provides Rescue and Emergency Medical Services to The Town of Pembroke and UNC Pembroke. Pembroke Rescue Squad consist of volunteers as well as paid staff, many volunteers are students at UNCP. The squad is equipted with two ambulances (both ambulances have over 100,000 miles on them) one Rescue Truck that is used for rescue operations (The rescue truck is on its last leg, sometimes I don't think it is going to make it to the next call) We work with a $30,000 dollar per year budget. Someone needs to help Pembroke Rescue.

I never felt safe during my 2 years at UNC-P. Campus Security was a joke. If there had been a real emergency like at VA Tech the incompetent UNC-P "Barneys" who did nothing but hit on female students couldn't be counted on. It would have taken 20 minutes or more for the Sheriff's Department to get an adequate number on campus to deal with a real emergency.

Fire protection is almost non existent. I don't know how UNC-P could posssibly have fire insurance. That's how bad the fire protection is. If a fire were to break out in one of the dorms at night I fear there would be a great loss of student lives.

I only times I saw the rescue squad was parked at the field at UNC-P football games. I'm glad I didn't have to see them after reading the article.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Aries

The behaviour of somebody around you (most probably your partner or family member) may be rather irrational today. Alternatively, a surprise involving one of these people is possible. Try to keep your domestic plans reasonably flexible to cover all possible outcomes. The focus is on improving your relationship with your partner or with friends today. Any outings should go very smoothly.
