New Park

Laurel Youth Council purchaced three town lots today. The park is located on Baltimore street across from Marvin Reeces house. They have the land bought and paid for now they need to raise money for the playground equipment. See you all @ Panther Fest 2009 at the old High School. 3 bands Identity Crisis, Squrily Bastards, and Bluegrass along with a Hog Roast silent action and door prizes.

Congradulations on the park! What day and time are they planning to do the fundraiser on? By the way, you all have done a great job with all of this!

"yeah okay"---There always has to be a turd in the punch bowl, so I guess it might as well be you! Why all the degativity? Why not think positive, and give Laurel a chance. It's people like you that do absolutely nothing to better a community, but are quick to put them down. Give this a chance. It may be what Laurel needs. A positive step in a positive direction. Way to go Laurel! Also, good job to those involved in making this happen.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen on topix! First of all citizen's are doing this on their own time not for profit so you are getting on the Internet bashing people for trying to give the kids of laurel a safe place to play some where that if anyone is there with drugs the state raises charges to a higher felony so it would be stupid for anyone to be within 1000 feet of it with drugs. secondly there is not enough people that live in laurel for wal-mart they would never even consider a town that small for a location. so when you come up with something reasonably sensible then let us hear it till then sit there and try to figure out how the hell you got that computer turned on.

you know as well as i do that there will be drug deals go down.... and jus cuz the state raises charges dont mean shit against ppl havin drugs there... it would be the same charges than havin drugs in a school, and that dont stop kids from takin them there.... so i still think laurel needs to raise money for a BETTER cause... like to fix the roads maybe or for ppl to re-establish businesses thats an eye sore... jus stuff to clean up the town...re-store the old jail, thats a historical thing that could be fixed... there are all kinds of things that would be a hell of a alot better than a drug dealin playground...

whatever happen to the factory that was goin in thats gonna give all these ppl without jobs a place to work... i think that was a great idea raise some money for that!

Well why dont you organize some of your like minded people and get your ideals going? I totally agree with the people of the town who believe that our kids is our best investment. Just maybe if we show the kids of laurel that someone actually gives a s&^t about them then maybe we can change the mentality of the youth that there is more than drugs and alcohol out there for them.

So we are going to fix a 10x10 stone builbing in the ally behind the Branch instead of building a park. I would love to meet you and discuss this helpful project. Ps: This park will be here for a long time. We are going to enjoy it and so will my children.

fIRST OF ALL: THE fRANKLIN COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY HAS ALLREADY BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT RESTORING THE OLD JAIL !!!! SECOND :THE TOWN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THE ROADS !! I posted the question on Friday, directed toward the council on when and where the fundraiser would be held, I log on here today and see all this. Worker bee, Tango,com-pa-dra,river rat, blah blah, WAY TO GO! Very well said! I am glad to see that there are SO many good smart people in our town, standing up for the youth around here! To the others who speak of drug dealers in the park, first off, there are drug dealers everywhere in the WORLD, that is not going to change and the idea that we should not put a positive thing into this community, because of that is ridiculous. I highly doubt that the drug dealers in town are saying" Hey there's a new 3 lot park in town, let's go deal our drugs,instead of where we've been doing it, lets put it out in the open, for everyone to see and risk it! This is a 3 lot park, it's not as big as Roberts Park in Connersville for example, and most drug busts nation wide are not busted in a park or recreational facility.( Check your facts you will see that). The police and the community will be keeping a eye on what goes on there and if problems should arise, they will be dealt with, as they are anywhere else. To deny the kids of the right to have a safe place to play and hang out because you feel like there are "eye sores" in town that need worked on, or someone has a non- educational idea about a Walmart center in a 500 population community, is ignorance! The council took time out of their life to make this happen, raised money, to do this, so if you feel like there are better things to do then a park by all means, get off your computer and go DO something about it, get your self a fundraiser going to help do what you feel needs to be done, don't be a hater to all the people who are trying to better a future generation of children who are looking to us adults to set that example. There are parks in every surrounding county around here, are kids deserve the same things that those other children have! I am not here to argue with people who are negative, I am only on here to stand up for the kids in this town and the people who are trying to make a difference in it. Hope everyone has a GREAT DAY!
