Of course we should never forgive, never give a second chance, and always hold a person back forever if they made a mistake. Don’t make me go back in history and tell you how many great people did great things after a big mistake.

Hays is unforgiving, arrogant, self righteous, pretentious and pedantic. With all those "mistakes" under Senor Hays’ belt no wonder he has so much time to squander on this type of drivel. No one will give him a second chance either except our morally bankrupt rag, the Sun News.

NMSU is not in the business of offering up redemption; it is in the business, presumably, of educating students, conducting research, and serving the public. We have seen the adverse effects of unethical conduct on its ability to discharge these responsibilities because of the ethical failures of its leaders.

I admire your long string of adjectives, but everyone will understand them to be invoked in retaliation for my few remarks on racism in a previous column, remarks which you took personally. Even if they properly applied to me, they would not address the merits of my position in this column.

Dr. Hayes is brilliant. Indeed, "dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres." For all those who dislike him for speaking the truth, I'll just say one more Spanish saying, "la verdad no peca pero incomoda." This place does not only need more ethical leadership; it also needs more prophets like him.

Doc, nice try on claiming those adjectives do not apply to you, but those of us who have seen your lies and hypocrisy displayed over and over know better. If you've forgottten some of your more "substantive" posts that prove what Uncle Bobby said of you, just say the word and you can have an instant replay. Remember saying:

"I enjoy diddling people" . "My credentials are intimidating..."

Did NMSU reject you also or why do you have such a big axe to grind with them?

I just love this example of creative writing, all based on the belief that PenPal is one of the people involved in the dust-up in the College of Health and Social Services. I am so glad that he has addressed those also pre-occupied with fictions of his own.

More bluster and non responsive.

My point was that someone who made one of the “horribly egregious” mistakes you point out could just be the one best suited to lead NMSU to educate our youth and to research greatness. Your argument seemed to miss the point. Candidates should be judged on their complete package.

Oh and by the way Mr. Hays, I do not recall responding to any of your diatribes, and never have I taken blog-speak personally.

Non-response to what? Your non-response? What kind of logic gets from having indulged favoritism to the possibility--well, I suppose anything is possible; what are the odds?--of being someone well suited to "educate our youth and to research greatness"? And what in the world does it mean to make "greatness" the object the infinitive "to research"? Your BTW is a beaut of forgetfulness, but do congratulate yourself for the mental erasure of your past.

Dr. Hay's article is nothing more than common sense, which unfortunately many people lack. As an alum and former employee of NMSU, it is an embarrassment that NMSU is once again looking for ANOTHER president. NMSU migrates to corrupt candidates like a moth is attracted to a flame.

Choosing these two as candidates when a field of many other contenders were certainly available and certainly more qualified and with clean noses is nothing more than typical NMSU and/or New Mexico type activities.

This state, city, and university will continue to wallow in the past, and continue to be depicted as a places of backwards inept 'leadership', with any sign of progress being dismissed or denied.

I have been around campuses for most of my working career, and never, NEVER, have I seen one as dreadful as NMSU.

The student body is not much better.

While I agree that the statements from both candidates do not lend themselves to an upholding of ethical practices at NMSU, I do not agree with an implied conclusion that the other candidates were free of questionable practices. With time, anyone can highlight errors in judgment with administrators. I believe these two candidates have received this attention due to a lack of investigative journalism, as I can find the same information regarding their tenure with a quick Google search.

I wonder if the other candidates are receiving the same scrutiny. If the community really wants an ethical leaders, should we not apply the same litmus test to all candidates to ensure they are ethically sound?

i too believe that these two candidiates should be dropped from the short list given what we know to be factual regarding their leadership/management decisions/actions. it is silly to offer that other candidates have not been vetted as equally - thus their short-comings not as apparent for the public to recognize and scrutinize. the presidential selection committee member's task is to bring forward the best candidates out of the pool of applicants... if they were privy to the unethical woes of these two candidates and allowed them into the final five they did not fulfill their obligation to the selection process or to the nmsu community.
