A drivers license is one of just several things that will determine if you are audited and determined to be taxable. You are a fool if you think not having a drivers license makes you exempt from NM taxes. If you are living in NM, PAY YOUR TAXES. The kind taxpayers are sick of freeloaders who refuse to pay their fair share.

How about a line on the license that shows yes or no for citizenship? That might help with keeping uninsured out of the driver's seat as Richardson's goal and help solve the problem of using it as US ID.
Do you really think anyone would actually admit that they are illegal???

How about "ILLEGAL" written in big red letters across it? That would be easier to spot.

The state knows of EVERY single non-citizen who has applied and/or recieved a drivers license or ID. They can be tracked down if she chooses.

as someone who works with law enforcement I see that giving these people a d.l. did nothing to make drivers safer. They still dont register their cars,or buy insurance. The illegal alien sells the drivers lic. like it was a commodity on the stock market. They use thier kids social security number and sell it to the highest buyer.People have forgotton how much damage identity theft does. When your identity is stolen, for the rest of your life you are cleaning that mess up.
So I for one want to see this practice go,and will do whatever I can to help make it happen. The illegals have bankrupted this county and we have to put it back togeather.
and why is someone who is illegaly in this country getting a NM drivers lic? They should have been deported or put in jail.I think Richardson and his democratic cronies should be held accountable.

Here, in las cruses N.M a person who is illegal go to the m,v,d don't have to get on line to obtain a driver' license but if you are citizen of the u.s.a. or resident you have to spend all day on line to be able to get that benefit.

Go back where you come from, why did you move to N.M. we don't need people like you here.

There is some question as to whether Richardson was actually born in the United States. I have read that he was born somewhere on the US-Mexico border, and there is question as to which side he was actually on. This brings into question if there is any reason to expect him to want to deport illegals?

Those licenses can always be revoked as far as the driving matter. Of course the ID itself would still exist until it expires. I wish they could have made the expiration dates yearly for those types of licenses because then the problem could solve itself.
Being that one can get a DL here good for up to 8 years, the best way to eliminate those of ILLEGALS may be to require everyone to buy another and invalidate everyone's(incl LEGAL residents) old ones. Yeah, I know it'd be a real PITA but...

If you HAVE insurance, you're already being charged for "Uninsured Motorists" so it doesn't make a damn whether anyone who hits you has or does not have a valid DL. On top of that you'll have to pay a $250 deductible.

Interesting thought -BUT-, you have to be allowed to ask the question so the response can be added to your license in the first place! Heaven forbid the DMV should ask... especially when the police can't... Liberals...

Thank goodness someone is finally doing something about this problem. I have seen many times when people with NM Driver's License yet they don't have any legal right to be here in the US.
I think it should be nation-wide part of the Patriot Act to thoroughly do background checks on everyone that is trying to obtain a state identification card.
Illegal immigrants should not be able to qualify for a NM DRIVER LICENSE...

When my husband came to NM (2003) from Canada on a work visa as a registered nurse, he had to go through all kinds of ID verification with the MVD in order to get a driver license including showing his work visa and work contract with the hospital. So, I'm not really sure what's going on with all this stuff about not having to prove one is in the state legally....my husband did. Also, even last year when we changed our address we had to prove we were here legally and prove our place of residence with utility bills.
So, who is trying to snow who?

Oh, and one more thing. When two new people coming from out of state to work where I do, they both HAD to show their SSN cards. The young man had left his in his belongings being shipped by a moving company. The MVD would not let him get a driver's license without it. So, he had to wait until the moving company delivered his belongings here in NM.

Yet, the article states: "Under New Mexico's law, people without a Social Security number can apply for a driver's license." So, who's snowing who?

Apparently it is not that way anymore, like I say there are a high number of illegals who are bypassing this type of ID verification and obtain DL, I even asked one what would happen if BP stopped them, he said "I would get deported" AMAZING

Unfortunately repealing this law will result in loads of uninsured unlicensed desperadoes driving the roads of New Mexico. Inevitably, we will see more hazardous chases, more hit'n runs and higher insurance costs.

What makes you think that having a license or insurance makes you a safer driver? An obvious misconception on your part.

We don't need to wait. It's here already.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Libra

It's one of those difficult days when anything can and will happen. Someone you were relying on might let you down, plans could be changed at the eleventh hour or a machine could go on the blink. To make matters worse, your energy levels are very erratic, so you feel full of beans one minute and ready to go to sleep the next. Don't make the situation worse by eating foods that give you a high followed by a slump.
