Wilderness Act of 1964 would require the removal of radio transmitters and sensers within designated wilderness. If language is not included in the congressional act designating the wilderness and its management, then it is not going to happen. Secretary Naplantino has just recently recommended to reduce the number of Border Patrol agents. Youhttp://www.govtrack.us/cong ress/billtext.xpd?bill=s111-16 89 read the intoductory bill - many revisions since then Please read the fact sheet on the bill. http://bingaman.senate.gov/policy/organmtns_f...

I guess administration changed their mind on reducing Border Patrol agents on the border after a rancher has been killed last month. The cuts are going to take place at the Artesia Training center. How many more ranchers killed will it take before they wake up to the fact that wilderness designation is what the drug runners and illegal immigrants like. The killer of the rancher was tracked back through the San Bernadino Wildlife Refuge where it is being managed like wilderness. The director of Federal Fish and Wildlife Service sent letters to the Tucson Border Patrol Sector prohibiting Border Patrol from the refuge.

Here is the right website for the fact sheet on wilderness rather than the fictional version in this letter by Mr. Hummer. http://bingaman.senate.gov/policy/organmtns_f...

What does this BOZO know about border security issues? What M0R0NS elected him to speak on behalf of all citizens on border security? He's sound like a puppet or a dummy. John L. Hummer's professional experience includes 17 years as a hospital executive. As the developer and founding CEO of Las Cruces' second hospital, MountainView, he and his family made the decision to make Las Cruces home. He is committed to the growth of our community. His community leadership includes Chairman, Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance, Board Member - Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce, Commissioner - District One, New Mexico Department of Transportation, Board Member, First Community Bank, Co-Chair - Mesilla Valley Hospice Capital Campaign. He is married to Amy Carmichael. They have two sons Alex and Sam. They are active in St. Albert the Great Catholic Church and are "avid" Aggie fans.

You have to read the bill S.1689. Fact sheets are pure politics, only what is written in the bill is facts. What you think it will do or wish the bill will do, or even administrative agreements don't trump a law passed by congress. Wilderness does not permit mechanical vehicles to be used except for human saftey or health. That does not include Border Patrol or law enforcement. The MOA you will come back with has not be tested in NEw MExico.

This is insult to say Wilderness contributes to murders - sad commentary on the lack of reason and common sense. With this reasoning ranchers should be removed from the border for their own protection.

I think I have a pretty good understanding of the legislative process in Congress. The wilderness act of 1964 with modification by subsquent bills is still the law. The MOA with Homeland security, Interior and USDA is a permit system. Ask them how many years it has taken to put transmitters back into wilderness areas. Ask border patrol in Arizona why they have to wait at the border for the horses to be trailered in so they can go into the wilderness managed wildlife refuge. Your faith in fact sheets and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee. America is a land of laws and the wilderness act of 1964 is still the law no matter what you think.

This letter ran in the 22 April edition and was re-posted to the web page yesterday. Why? Is this Walt Rubel trying to galvanize the pro-wilderness crowd? What a great example of the Las Cruces Scum News and its scummy editor using the paper to further a political agenda. True journalism is dead in this country.

Sorry Mr. Hummer does not know about wilderness and borber security. Read the outstanding May 2nd letter in the Sun News by Paul Deason, a member of the U.S. Department of Justice Anti Terrorism Advisory Council. You will be humming a different tune about Wilderness.
