wow. this sends some kind of message to the public who were swindled out of tax dollars to fund this boondoggle. life in the wild-wild-west allows for a lack of checks and balances.

Isn't that the truth! It's shocking, and mostly apalling, our government entities bend their own rules just to keep business (or political) favor. That's what they did to keep the T or C hot springs going, too. And, New Mexico does seem more guilty of this than most other states. Rules?(You know, the ones they spend all of their time making, then say they don't have staff to enforce them.) "Oh", they'll say, "that rule only applies to certain situations, and if the business had special this or that, well, then those rules don't necessarily apply, unless it's Thursday at 3 O'Clock, on the fifth week of the month, but if it's leap year, then, well, there's a different set of rules....". Folks, our government is so broken, it can't be fixed. Don't even try making complaints, speaking at public hearings, thinking it matters, etc. You'll get put into the black hole loop. And that's the way they like it. I had a complaint that took them a year-and-a-half to respond to. Then, it was well if it's this, but not that, then our dept. doesn't handle your request. And the beat goes on....

Today is declaration day for city commission candidates. I hear we have some good people signing up. This could be a good opportunity to get some people in there who don't want to hang on to the way business has been done here for the last many decades. Not everyone wants to pick up that fight, but we can all get out and vote! Don't lose heart...we can turn things around. At least here in town. The country? I'm not so encouraged about.

An environmental impact study would be a waste of time and money. 1. The (well traveled) road is already there. 2. They already paved the same road from Engle south to Cutter, what's the freaking difference? Glad to see virgin galactic is moving thier office to Las Cruces, at least we'll get some of our money back.

Very well stated Paul....in this town, common sense is scarce but at least its not extinct. Not yet anyway.

What about the people who live in Cutter and Engle who've totally lost their wells? All dry... Nah, no environmental impact study needed...unless you live near the Spacepork!

And money spent on a study now would change that situation how? The Space Port has been built. It's here and it's a done deal. I'm not saying it was a great idea or that people negatively impacted shouldn't be fully compensated. But Paul is correct. To spend money on an environmental study in the final stages of the project would be an idiotic waste. Kind of like running over to close the barn door after the horses got out.

The space port is for helping humanity face the fact that we will soon have this planet so screwed up that we will soon have to leave it forever. Damn the environmental impact studies, warp speed ahead!

Kind of like running over to close the barn door after the horses got out. the study would be on the new road construction, not the space port. Different project - different issues. Since there is already access from the north, there is nothing about assessing the impacts of the road that interferes or delays the operation of the spaceport.

Please provide a link about the wells - obviously there should be recourse, if true.

Domination sure is the way, isn't it? See, we locals remember when Bill Richardson came to town and rammed the tax increase down our throats (bend over Sid Bryan, Gary Whitehead and Jerry Stagner). When opponents to the tax increase put up signs and rallied, his "people" played all the dirty tactics...tearing our signs so they couldn't be read, stealing them, and even directing the state highway guys to take them down (after they had been approved by the highway dept.). Of course, nobody questioned the illegal employment practices set up by People For Aerospace to media blitz T or C's citizens, and the push for employers to intimidate workers to vote "yes", or they'd lose their jobs. Should we honestly back something that was done so unethically, and now continues in the same vein? Now to hear requirements, state and federal, are being ignored, gone around, and flat out determined unnecessary (why did they have them as requirements to begin with) is PAR FOR THE COURSE, EH?

FACT: instead of paying back the costs of his failed Presidential campaign, Richardson took campaign funds and put them into the Spaceport media blitz. Can you still say ETHICS without feeling guilty after all that you know about the Spacepork?
