The people there don't have a clue how to deal with an exotic, wild cat of any kind, let alone actually take care of it.
Sure hope that the unfortunate cat survives that place and is sent to a sanctuary as soon as possible.

why do have to bash the shelter. you should be mad at the irresponible person who put these animals in this situation. The Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley did not do anything wrong here. BTW the other wild cats they had there before from this person actually left the shelter in better shape than they were when they arrived. |

Do dairies and horse farms have to obtain a "multi-animal permit for their "domestic" animals? I think a maximum of 15 would be a problem for them. I would like to know where the information is on this license as it cannot be found on the internet. Looks like a "puppy mill" law passed under the noses of AKC and local dog clubs. I guess bobcats are included as "domestic" animals. Interesting.
The problem with the shelter and some of are appointed (elected officials) is their affiliation with US Humane Society, an animal rights, anti-hunting, anti-meat eating, anti-anything to do with animals, organization. Hopefully, sportsmen groups and livestock people start to recognize this and remove them from office! |

1 A few problems here: First, I think you're referring to the Humane Society of the United States when you mention the US Humane Society. Second, Animal Services has no affiliation with HSUS. The Humane Society of the US is it's own non-profit. Yes, they donate their services and advise when requested, but the only ones who have requested their assistance is animal control for the different raids they conduct. Third, animal services has nothing to do with sportsmen and livestock. Sportsmen deal with the Dept of Fish and Game and livestock deal with the Department of Agriculture. Check your facts next time. And it's not the shelter's fault there's a bobcat there. You should criticize the breeder. She should never have had one (or 2), especially in a city environment. It's not fair for the citizens or the cats. |

Ain't that the truth!! I just love it when stupid people take things out of context. The ONLY truth was, there was a cat that tested positive for H1N1...He's better now. What the OTHER part of that story was...NONE of the doctors OR the CDC could say if the cat caught it from a human! Science has proven that dogs can catch many illnesses from humans. This cat would be the first report I've ever heard of that it might have caught it from a human. PLEASE LISTEN to the WHOLE report before you say something really dumb. |

1 this is purfffect, today is the day all cats should be eradicated, this guy proves they are a nuisance to the human race and to keep the infected and soon to be infected animals alive , would be hurtful to the feline species. The humane thing to do is Kill em all... “this message is endorsed by the lab rat’s union 666, for the eradication of cat species,” because “lab rats” need love too… |

you are asked to deliver your domestic "house cat" to the shelter at feeding time for the "wild cat" the time is 24 hours a day 7 days a week, if requested in advance, you may film or view the last moments of fluffy, as you will be providing a great service. the first 100 feedings will receive an engraved plaque, in connection with the "keep the earth Green" campaign by removing all cats from the green earth.... |

I am the owner of this cat. The media has blown the entire issue out of context. This was a beloved family pet, that was also used for educational purposes. He often went to pet stores, nursing homes, and school groups, to educate the public about the plight of endangered wildlife. He was an animal ambassador, who had a wonderful life and was very loved. He was let out of his enclosure by someone else, and was frightened when animal control showed up to confiscate him.

Kelli, I am so sorry for you and your cat. This kind of story is so typical of both the local media and the animal control people. The media just want to sell papers or air time, no matter what the truth really is or how their "reporting" will affect the people involved. Animal control is on a huge ego trip, think they can read a situation as soon as they walk into it, and don't bother to talk to the people who actually know what is going on. Then they lie when confronted with the truth.

Grind up the cat, it's owner, and anyone else who doesn't like animal control. Use the mess for fertilizer.

1 There are so many things wrong with what you've done I'm not even going to get into it. All I'm going to say is that you are nothing more than an irresponsible backyard breeder and you should be ashamed of yourself. You are contributing to this community's pet overpopulation problem, raising wildlife in an unnatural environment, and leaving the mess for everyone else to clean up. What's worse is you did it all for money. |
||||
She didn't say the facts were incorrect, only that she felt the story was taken out of context. There's a difference. I also find it interesting that you are sympathizing with a criminal (she had several animals illegally). Would you be so sympathetic to someone who broke into your home or stole your car? They're a criminal just the same. |
