firing pins stevens shotgun. Springs or not?

I have a stevens/savage 235 model shotgun. side by side 12 gauge. external hammers. I was told by a fire arms store the pins are shot. I removed them myself and believe they are shot. Are there supposed to be springs in with the firing pins?

Numrich Gun Parts exploded view of the model 235 does not show a firing pin retractor spring as a separate item. You can view the the parts schematic by entering Numrich Gun Parts into your browser and then going to the schematics tab. They have parts for many old firearms.

The Stevens 235 was last manufactured in 1932.
