My son is wanting to attend Wyotech, however, I have heard a few negative comments from the community concerning the students that attend. Is this a good school? What is the student/teacher ratio? Is the community safe? Are the students really prepared when they finish? We have talked to two different representatives, but they are representatives......of course they said everything was perfect. Will my child be able to find a part-time job? Is living on campus better than living elsewhere? I need help from an outsider. We live about 20 hours away from Laramie, and I am not crazy about sending my son that far away. We have a diseal school about 4 hours away from us, so why would I want to send my child to one that is 20 hours away? I appreciate any and all help.

I attended WyoTech in Laramie a few years back. The people who live in Laramie do not like the "techers". It's sad because WyoTech provides atleast triple the revenue than UW does for Laramie. Also there is more or less an unwritten rule that techers and UW students are sworn enemies. It is top of the line like they say. Teacher to student ratio is between 15-20:1 Don't listen to the reps they get paid commission for everyone they sign up. A lot of what they say is right but some is not. Yes the community is safe. Your son might be able to find a job but if you expect him graduate he will not have time for a job with all his studying. If he is in the top of his class he could possibly have a job waiting for him with a top company before he is even done with school. I personally hate Techer housing and it is not on campus housing. They have a bunch of apartment buildings that they own for student housing. One of which was an old efficiency hotel. It has a bathroom a fridge a two burner stove top and beds. A US submarine has more room to move around in and I'm not joking. At the time I was there they had 3 people living in each room and they were made for 2. Also living in student housing you have no rights. It's there property and they can search anything at anytime including vehicle if on WyoTech property. Contrary to what Reps say you can not work on your vehicle on WyoTech property of any kind. Including classrooms. I lived of campus in a private apartment building only way to go. If your son wants to party and be wild in college WyoTech is not the school for him. If he isn't the type of kid who can have perfect attendance it's not for him. Missing 3 days off class and it will hurt his grade enough to possibly make him fail his class and more or less waste 3 months for him.

Also if he doesn't know how to fix vehicles already and has an understanding of the main course he is taking he will struggle through. They don't tell you but they expect you to have a general knowledge base already. If you go on the tour of the school the school housing they will show you will be the best housing they have. Also don't expect to get an honest answer from students if you ask them a question and the real answer is harmful to the school. If they give you an answer that they don't like they at the least will be punished and possibly expelled. They know when tours are coming through an they are told to ignore you unless approached.

Thank you for repsonding, however, he has decided not to attend. The more research that we do it sounds as if we have made the right decision.
Again, thank you for your help.

WyoTech is no worse than any other university. Every collage has a group of people who are bad and a group that is good. honestly, 90% of the "techers" I met are more polite and more kind than the UW kids.
