Utah crews search for BASE jumper from Missouri

It appears that Buckly is alive and on the run. He is deliberately evading. Countless rescuers have risked their lives in extremely difficult terrain to find this SOB. Dozens of fellow BASE Jumpers from around the country gathered near Delta, Utah to find one of their own. Once the news officially breaks they will find out that they were duped by LeRoy Buckly. Leroy, you were a decorated Warrior deserving of your nations admiration! What the hell happened to you?

I spent a significant amount of time following leads that indicated he was on the run. We all refused to believe that he was evading us so we continued to search the challenging and dangerous terrain on and around Notch Peak hoping to find him alive. All indications as well as witness reports, indicate that as late as Sunday night he was alive. I have to believe that he is suffering from PTSD and is not behaving rationally. Military helicopters searched every square inch of that area for 2 solid days and found nothing. If he were alive and just lost he could have done something to get the attention of the helicopter crews. More to follow I am sure.

Yes, it is true. The missing person reported as been canceled and it is not a manhunt for a suspicious person wanted for questioning regarding the assault. The victim positively identified the jumper at the police station using photographs of the "missing" man.

If this is about who I think it is, I can't say I'm surprised. Without trying to sound too terribly negative or judgemental, what are the chances he's doing this for the attention and spotlight?

I knew as soon as the story and time line was told that something was not right. I was split between foul play or someone not wanting to be found. I would not be too hard on him though,it doesn't sound like he is right in the head right now.

Look at the facts. No blood,body or gear found.Disappeared right in front of someone.Message sent from a locator miles away. No more messages. Several sighting.

first off, the search and rescue has not been called, and I know that for a fact. He is still considered a missing person, and as for the carjacking, they have not confirmed that it was him, and acctually believe that it was unlikely that it was. Second, the several sightings that you mentioned, they do not believe that that was him.
And last, you guys should find a new hobby, something other then slandering good soldiers. You have no idea what is going on and you are just taking partial facts and coming up with your speculations! If you want to find out the trueth, why don't you drive down to Utah and aid in the search, otherwise you should just shut up!

I agree with you "concerned friend", but this isn't adding up somehow. I want to see Leroy again. In a crazy way, I wish it was Leroy that tried to carjack someone, that would mean that he's alive. I just don't understand how so many (selfless) people can be out there searching for him, and not even find evidence that he was there. The minute I heard he went missing I started thinking strange things. In the end, all you can hope for is peace... If he's alive, I hope he's okay. If he's not, I hope he he got to make that last jump. Take care Leroy.

I agree with you also, if that was him who did the carjacking (which doesn't sound like him) it would mean that he is a live, but it might mean that he's NOT alright. But most of the stuff that is being posted on the web, including the news, aren't the actuall accounts of what is going on. As far as I can tell, some of the stories are correct while other parts are not. Its not a good idea to get yourself, or anybody else, worked up over speculations. And I will say it again, if we want the trueth we need to search and bring him home safely. And for those like me who can't, I suggest praying for LeRoy's safe return, and for the saftey of those who are helping search for him.

I don't pray as much as I used to, but when I do it is very sincere and real. I have prayed for Leroy, his family, and the search party, now it's time to trust.

I hate to be grim, but it's been 8 1/2 days. If LeRoy injured himself to the point of being immobile, then he would have not been able to make it this long. If he is just lost (and therefore mobile), then there's a chance that he may still be alive. But what surprises me the most is that he hasn't been found. With the amount of resources that have been devoted to his rescue, it's hard to imagine that he's nearby and unable to be found.

I hate to say it, but there's a better chance than not that something fishy is going on. Yes, this is mere speculation, but it is what it is...

I must say that I feel bad. I am no longer the "Angry Rescuer" but a very Sad Rescuer. This case was so weird. What are the odds that during the same time this fallen hero went missing that someone who witnesses positively identified as Leroy would be causing problems in the desert west of where Leroy's body was found. That person is still on the loose. I can confirm that Leroy was found about 2000' feet from the top of Notch Peak (about half way down the mountain). It appears that he died on impact due to a "chute" malfunction. His body appeared tangled in the "Chute".
My heart felt condolences to all his family and friends. Our country has lost a true servant and hero!
This has taught me that no matter how many twists a case like this appears to have, don't draw any conclusion until all the facts are known.

I have to say that this is one of the most decent blog sites I have ever visited. Reading about Leroy and the concerns and frustrations of searching for someone, you all still kept your comments decent and concerning. I knew Leroy as a young student at Coquille High School here in Oregon. My work was with TBI students and Leroy always had a smile and the time to sit and chat with students that a lot of other kids would never take the time to notice. Even keeled, consistently kind, very smart and a gentle sense of humor - that is how I will always remember him.
