I'm wondering which suburbs in the southern part of Dallas County have grown significantly in the past decade or so. Any insight, especially from area residents, would be greatly appreciated.

1 I lived in the southern suburbs for 20+ years. I'll take a shot at answering your question. Most of the cities in southern Dallas County have grown in population over the last decade, some more than others. Population Comparison (2000 Census/2009 Estimate) DeSoto (37,646 / 48,700)+11,054 Cedar Hill (32,093 / 45,600)+13,507 Duncanville (36,081 / 38,850)+2,769 Lancaster (25,894 / 36,200)+10,306 Glenn Heights (7,224 / 12,100)+4,876 Seagoville (10,823 / 13,850)+3,027 Wilmer (3,393 / 3,300)-93 Hutchins (2,805 / 3,050)+245 Population Growth Rates, 2000-09 67.5% Glenn Heights 42.1% Cedar Hill 39.8% Lancaster 29.4% DeSoto 28.0% Seagoville 8.7% Hutchins 7.7% Duncanville -2.7% Wilmer Among the larger cities, Cedar Hill and Lancaster have grown the most. Glenn Heights, which is situated on the Dallas/Ellis County border is the fastest growing among smaller communities. These communities are growing much faster rate than the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as a whole. I hope you find this information helpful. |
