We are with you Otis! Sorry you got tased. We will be there for you. I don't blame the cop... I wasn't there... but no dog should be treated like this. Otis did nothing and wasn't going to do anything. If the dog had came at the officer, then the officer had every right to shot it dead. He didn't the dog backed off and so did the officer. The officer had good judgment and opted for a non lethal option.. good response. My only issue is that the dog isn't a pit and the owner is going to loose his dog. Even if the dog was a pit. Why is Lakewood and other cities banning breeds of dogs? Is this breed/racial profiling? I think it is!

This is just a sad story of what is to come, unfortunately more often than anyone will want to admit. First it is Pit bulls and no doubt, boxers will be added to the list. As I have said before, it can and will happen to your dog. I guess I was right. BSL will not stop at Pit bulls. I have read many stories from pit bull owners that have nothing but good things to say about them. I am one of those people. I have never owned a pit before, but since finding one last year, he has to be one of the most loving dogs I have ever had. Lakewood could be making a grave mistake if they don't return poor Otis to his owner. This is absolutely horrible!! Ever since this dog ban went into effect, I have felt nothing but grief and sadness for myself and others that have fallen victim to this outrageous law. Especially the helpless dogs that have done nothing to deserve what has been handed them. God help them. It literally seems like no one else will in Lakewood. What a shame.

The police officer(s) involved in this case used a disproportionate amount of force to control Otis. If the officer who tasered this dog was afraid of being licked to death then I suppose he was justified. As stated last night by the dog trainer on Fox 8, the "taser cam" video demonstrates typical boxer behavior... tail wagging, tongue out, and an occasional bark. Most dogs bark when they want attention (normally because they want to play), but I think the attention Otis got was unjustified. I wish Mr. Kier and Otis the best in this matter. The officer operating the taser should be ashamed of him/herself.

Just makes me sick to see this to happen to an innocent dog. That dog was terrified being approached by those officers the way he was. Tasering that poor dog was inhumane to say the least.

The police should have shot the dog instead. I have seen people get bitten by "a dog just barking and wagging its tale" before. A wagging tale means nothing. The owner is at fault here for not having his dog restrained. He should be thanking the police officer for not shooting and killing his dog. I am happy for the dog that he didn't get killed even tho I believe the police had every right to shoot it.

Ill keep otis in my prayers I Hope you get to take your Little boy home. This was uncalled for. Just because he is a pitbull doesnt mean he is a bad dog. NOT ALL PITBULLS ARE MEAN! Any kind of dog can turn. WHy do so many people like to give pits a bad name! I hope you get Otis back!

I am happy for the dog that he didn't get killed even tho I believe the police had every right to shoot it. How does one wag their "tale" anyway? Im glad the officer used his taser and not his gun, but his decision was made for the wrong reasons. Not because he didnt want to shoot the dog, but because he was afraid of the bullet ricocheting. Police might not know a boxer from a pit bull, and they cant wait for someone to get bit before they react, but the dog warden who was there SHOULD KNOW. Everyone who knows Pit Bulls can tell right away this dog isnt one but the DOG WARDEN CANT... Who is this guy? Some croney with a connection ill bet...Whether you disagree with this incident or not the people of Lakewood need to get someone who knows what they are doing in there because the decisions he is making on a guess are impacting lives and families who end up guilty until proven innocent.

He looks like a white boxer. Even if he was a pit bull, there is no reason to judge a dog based on breed. A dog should be judged individually based on behavior and not the the way the dog looks, a big head or muscular body. Unfortunately Lakewood judges dogs based on looks and not behavior. They mis identify dogs all the time. They think anything with a muscular body and bigger head is a pit. They are totally uneducated. The city council needs to hear about this, their law that they put into affect is making other owners suffers for no reason. Yes this owner was irrsponsible for not properly confining the dog which you should do with any dog, and not letting roam at will but the dog should not have been treated so inhumanely. All the animal warden had to do was get a catch pole and get it out of there safely so everyone including the dog was unharmed! Instead accusing the dog of being a pit, they did not care and read the dogs behaviors wrong and tased this dog. I believe the dog was tased because lakewood is on a witch hunt for pit bulls! Until Lakewood and lakewood's responsible dog owners unite this will keep happening. They need to speak out and let people know this is wrong and they will not stand for it. This is a very inhumane city, they dont even let you walk your dogs at parks in the city. They put a ban on one breed of dog -pit bulls and do not even know what a pit bull is. The council needs to hear from you, dont sit back and elect these stupid officials again, get that mayor out of office. Until this changes you will continue to see garbage laws from thsi council. You need to speak up! Stand up for your dogs! They are yours and you have the right to own the breed you want...you must be responsible!

It's so obvious this is a Boxer...geez, all anyone has to do is look up "Boxer" dogs on the internet and SEE what a boxer looks like.. A child could figure that out! Tasering ONCE should have been enough. There was no need for the second tasering, however, they didn't shoot the dog, and I give them credit for that, which is more than I can say for the cop that killed an 11 year 12 pound dachshund or a tiny 5 pound chihuahua!. There are far too many trigger happy police who are too quick to kill family pets rather than using other options available, such as these officers decided to do. They still need better training on animal behavior though. That in itself, would save many family pets.

The so called animal warden and police do not know breeds, they mis identify all the time! They need some real training. You would think being in the profession they are in they would have a clue but they don't. They blame pit bulls, they just are on a witch hunt for pits because of Lakewood city councils laws. You need to let Lakewood city council what they created and how this is affecting your city. There are more breeds next on the list, Rotts are on the breed specific list next...watch out. Lakewood is not a dog friendly city. You need to fight for your dogs!
