Regarding the people who are so frutrated trying to adopt an animal, it needs to be
clarified that they are dealing with the spcaLA, NOT the employees of the Long Beach
Animal Shelter. It is very unfair of the hardworking people at the LBAS to be
accused of something they don't do, nor do they have any control over.
In fact, only 501(c)3 [non profit] rescue groups can adopt directly from the
LBAS. Adoptions to the general public must go through the spcaLA.

"Halloween is anti-Christian

The pagan feast of Halloween is foreign to Christian tradition and has become a superstitious and empty way of imposing mindless triviality.

The day has its origin in the Celtic New Year, which celebrated the return of the spirits of the dead to their homes. Hence, those who observe Halloween, though they are probably ignorant of what they are doing and why they are doing it, are in reality celebrating death, the devil and hell.

The observance of Halloween is mixed with Christian festivities whose meanings are totally contrary to Halloween. On Nov. 1, Christians celebrate belief in the communion of saints. On Nov. 2, we make visits to the cemetery as a religious and profoundly human gesture, inspired by the hope in the resurrection.

I encouraged Christians to celebrate the Christians truths of these days with renewed faith as a response to the real concerns of mankind today. Also, as an alternative to Halloween I might suggest that parents not allow their children to go trick-or-treating, but instead attend costume parties where they can dress as biblical figures.

Tim Storey"

You have your hate-filled churches to spread that religious whack. Why is this paper printing this crud anyway. So how about for equal coverage, the PT prints something from a SATANIC group to explain all this.

Going to church no more makes you a christian than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Hmmmm I wonder how the Taliban is getting stronger...???

Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that the Afghan President Hamid Karzai's brother is on the CIA payroll...Would it???

Ahmed Wali Karzai is reported to be a drug trafficker for Taliban owned and operated opium fields.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/28/world/asia/...

The CIA is helping to fund THE TALIBAN???!!! NO WAY!!!!

I mean, sure they help funded the creation on the Mujahideen (which lead to the creation of both the Taliban and Al-Qaeda), but that was ancient history right?!

Oh...and by the way...the war on terror is a hoax...a hoax Obama is going to continue...

I'm sure Obama will eventually send more troops Louis...Cannon fodder in an unnecessary and impossible war.

War...what is it good for?

Tim Storey: If you'd bother to question your bible, you would find out that Christmas was ORIGINALLY a pagen holiday called Saturnalia, that celebrated the Winter solstace. Where in the Bible does it say Jesus was born on Dec. 25th? It has nothing to do with Jesus' birthday. If you bother to check on another big Christian holiday, Easter, you'd find that it was also ORIGINALLY a pagen holiday, celebrating the beginning of spring. Todays lesson: don't believe everything you read in the Bible.

One thing you can count on. Christians aren't satisfied until they impose their tasteless beliefs on others.

I adopted my little terrier from the Irvine Animal Shelter and had no problem at all. I was one of two people who wanted the puppy, who was 7 mos at the time, we flipped a coin and she won. I received a call later in the day that she had backed out because she did not want to go through the problems that come with raising a puppy. I filled out form, was apprised of the problems, and adopted her the same day. I had to wait a few more days for her to be spayed and get her shots and we have had a wonderful four years together. Go to Irvine the next time you want to adopt a pet. They are great, and they have annual reunions.

The bible does! Most kids are just out to have fun and get a few goodies.
There is nothing evil in their minds except to reek havoc on the yard of those
who have no treats for them. Adults have drunken costume parties that they would
find another excuse for if there was no Halloween. Halloween today is simply
meant for fun, nothing else.

It is true that the people at the Long Beach animal shelter make it very difficult to adopt a pet. They would rather kill an animal than see it adopted out. These are just some petty bullies that think it is fun to make people jump through hoops. These are not animal lovers or friends of animals. Over-paid people without a conscious.

I have rescued several dogs off the streets in the last few years.
Just found one last weekend and had to call animal control because my dog will not tolerate another dog. I just wish I could take them all to Irvine Animal Care Center but shelters will only take pets found in their own areas. I can only hope when I say goodbye to them that they get into a good home. I would think that with high euthanisation rate, they would make it simple to adopt. They say it is because they dont want to get the dog back. But how can they get it back if it is never adopted in the first place? Doesnt make much sense.

He probably hates Harry Potter, too.
A couple of Thanksgivings ago, my Mother (who is 66), My self (41) and my aunt (late 80's) got into a discussion about the Harry Potter books, I had bought them for my son to start reading and doing school reports on. My aunt became unglued and started screaming at me about how those books were 'evil' and promoted 'witchcraft' and were 'anti-christian'. My mother and I looked at one another and burst-out laughing. We had both read them (and I stood in those long mid-night lines waiting for the newest novel to come out). After I calmed down enough to speak to her I looked at her and said, "They celebrate not only Christmas, but Easter too in the books". My aunt grabbed her plate and went into the kitchen. My mother and I laughed even harder...

The religious really do try to ruin all the fun, good things about being a kid, don't they...?

My suggestion for Mr. Storey is that he dress up like Ichabod Crane, jump on his morale high horse and go trick-or-treating and relax. Nobody should be that uptight about a fake holiday designed for kids to get candy. If he wants to protest Halloween, protest people that give out crappy candy... not because kids are dressing up like fictional characters.

Regarding pet adoption problems. Try Orange County I now have 2 Cats and didn't have any problems. When I decided to adopt I looked into the private shelters and it was a joke. They have so many forms and rules. Visits to your home they want to meet everyone who lives there and who may come there, how many hours you away from home the list goes on. I really don't think most of the crap they want to know is none of there business. Its no wonder that so many cats and dogs die every year. I was going to forget about it until I went to the OC shelter. Try it you will save a life!!

Catherine McWilliams is right. It is not the city at fault but a nonsensical system put in place by the SPCA. Answer one question "wrong" and no pet. "Do you keep your dog indoors?" You better say yes because according to the SPCA it is not safe to let your pet outside. What a load of hooey. Our three dogs are what keep the coyotes clear of our house in the desert. Without them the coyotes would be at our fence looking at us, up close and personal. I wouldn't dream of walking in the high desert without our dogs at my side, off their leash and ready to rumble. Other people and dogs? The people we meet need only be afraid of giving a tummy rub to Big Ben as he rolls over on his back?:-) The SPCA needs to get real.

Commonsense has none and certainly doesn't know the facts. Long Beach Animal Care Services does NOT adopt out animals. That is the function of the SPCA. I hate idiots that blast someone when they have no clue. Try going to their website and reading the facts.

Is this some more of the famous liberal tolerance? Come on people. He expressed his opinion. Agree or disagree but don't attack him, or anyone else that happens to be religious, simply because he spoke his mind. If you are going to get upset, get mad about how the current government is putting your kids into debt before they stop going out trick-or-treating.
