Anyone else suspicious of these water main ruptures happening all of a sudden during this extremely DRY season? I'm not one to ponder on conspiracies, but with all of the State agencies facing lay-offs, cut-backs, and bonus-freezes, its seems that the agency responsible for repairing water mains has their work and overtime guaranteed for the next several months.

What's going on with all of these water mains breaking?
Where's all the money going? I remember when the water bill doubled,
you'd think we'd be getting better service, obviously, like all of the other
businesses...money seems to be going elsewhere!
Then they want to raise our rates to fix what should have been worked on
already obviously!

The water mains are breaking due to water conservation, due to population overexpansion, which is increasing pressure on aging pipes.
Illegal immigrants don't pay for themselves. They have infrastructure requirements, which includes repiping our cities to deal with the pressure, as well as re-piping our sewage system to stop the backups due to raw cooking lard being shoveled down drains, inevitably leading to raw sewage spewing into the LA river. Immigrants aren't going to stop using lard for their cooking needs anytime soon. It's cheap, and it's a cultural staple of Mexico. Illegal immigrants don't pay for themselves.

Pay it,

That has got to be the dumbest and weakest rationale I've read explaining the rampant break in water mains throughout California. Especially since the last two occurred in communities that are predominantly White and affluent.

Keep blaming those instead of holding the agency and DWP responsible for what shouldn't have happened.

Unfortunately it's not only the Mexican race that cooks with lard. There's a lot of abuse when it comes to what goes down the drain! And there's a lot of people that don't care! Frustrating!!!
So all of a sudden aging pipes are to blame?
I think it's more then that, even out in OC where the pipes are newer they're breaking!
There's more to it, so let's pay this yoyo that retired big $$$ to fix it? Hello, what did he do when he was employed????

It seems dumb because you have reading comprehension problems, and are mixing up the sewage drainage problem with the water main problem. It's already been asserted by qualified engineers that the main breakages are occurring because of unusually high fluctuations in water pressure due to conservation efforts. Also each economic class doesn't have water pressure particular in their specific area only, so I don't know what you're smoking, but smoke a little less of it before posting. A vague clue on how our water is delivered and maintained in this city might be helpful for you also, if you can figure it out.

Has anyone considered the pipe breakage might be from the earthquakes.

WHY does the news alway report that the FIRE DEPARTMENT is involved in everything?? It was a water main break, for goodness sake! No wonder they demand such high salary - the media inflates their importance.

Is anybody else in Lakewood tired of the sheriff helicopters flying over their house twice an hour at all hours of the day? They need to stick to flying over major boulevards and freeways and stay away from residential neighborhoods.

Justwondering but, what has a water main( delivering water to your house) have to do with sewage drainage (taking sewage away from your house) that would be carrying your Lard. Wasn't it a water main that broke? Your rant about illegals and lard have nothing to do with a water main

The fire department is sent out to shut off the main valve. They can get there much faster than the water dept. that follows up. They are also there in case any citizens need help with the rising water.

Actually, I do not mind it. Yes, at times it can get annoying but it is better than having no police presence and having criminals run up and down the street. I feel quite safe. Most of the time too, the helicopter is not going to be circling over the same spot "twice an hour at all hours of the day." They are most likely flying over your house trying to assist the sherriffs on the ground. Keep it up Lakewood Sherriffs.

We've lived here over 30 years, and I've always felt safe knowing we have their presence. I don't mind them at all, the only time they circle is when they're on a chase, GOOD JOB!

<quoted text>Justwondering but, where were you when GWB and the Cons were throwing Pakistan 9 Billion a year? Wasn't our infrastructure crumbling then or did it just happen under Obama? Where were you when Bush borrowed and spent $1 trillion dollars, not to save lives, but to destroy lives in Iraq? Where were you when the Republicans passed the Medicare prescription drug bill for $450 billion and didn't fund a dime to pay for it? All borrowed money. Where were all your complaints then? You and your ilk would have more credibility if you were at least consistent. Instead you just look like the poor losing whinners you really are.
You are dismissing this point on a stupid political venteta? You are just looking for a fight. Don't get all weak in the knees for a political figure, for what-ever reason you have..they are all polaticians. They will say what-ever it takes to make you like them, like, I'm sure so many guys in the bars for you, hu?. Obama is in power and could care LESS about you or me. Same for Bush(es), Clinton, all of them. We are all losers in this department.
And you, agree then that our tax dollars should go to Pakistan instead of us? You are an idiot.

Another GOP clown hiding behind a computer and attacking Obama. I GUARANTEE this clown NEVER complained when Bush was throwing money all ove rthe world while letting the American infrastructure crumble. Typical jackass.

LeRoy, it must PAIN YOU IMMENSELY to know that Americans felt that an INEXPERIENCED BLACK MAN running for President was a BETTER option than another USELESS Republican...

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Virgo

Someone is being headstrong and wilful, and absolutely determined to do what they want. Mercury is retrograde and it's a Full Moon in Cancer with a lunar eclipse all happening tonight! This could lead to some heated discussions and possibly even rows, as you argue the toss back and forth. It might be best to accept that there's very little possibility of reaching an agreement rather than to get locked in a stubborn battle of wills. Besides, you don't want anything to spoil what promises to be a very enjoyable New Year's Eve. Have fun!
