Middleboro needs revenue. That's the bottom line. The roads YES need to be dealt with before the Casino is built but they need to be addressed anyways. Route 44 is so slow. How do you get anywhere? It's all bottle necked. Without a big money drawing machine like a Casino other businesses will never even consider coming near that area. Target pulled out of the old Lakeville Hospital for that reason. Money attracts money. Hate to see the town change but it has to, to survive.

Neither Twin Rivers, Foxwoods nor Mohegan Sun has brought any new busnesses to their areas, there is no reason to believe a casino in Middleboro would do the same.
Target bailed out of OLH because the economy was tanking. The expense was not worth it.
For the traffic that now exists on 44, the bottle-necking is caused more by a poor signal systems at the intersections in Middleboro. This is slated to be finished in 2010. If & I say "if" a real big money machine company came into the 44 area, then 44 would definitely need to be widened where it is now only 2 lanes. Right now, the state is not going to do that even for a casino, they said so.

"Since" knows nothing. The three mentioned casinos have brought local businesses. The RI one not much because it is a slot parlor like they wat to do in Raynham but the other two have brought a boat load of business because they offer more than just a slot machines. Table games, eateries, entertainment and other things that people want to take part in.

Proof?

Drive around the two in CT and look at all the new businesses. Better yet, look at it on google. you can see the new stuff.

Route 44 is a joke. I am so glad I don't drive it much or I would be p.o'd. That road is a joke.

And you are wrong. The state will have some private developer do what they can't with Route 44. Its in their contract.

It sounds like you don't know anything but are one of the blowhards that think they do.

I seem to remember a similar arguement about Rte 1 in Foxboro.....granted, it took 30 years to get someone serious about development, but Kraft has made Patriot Place a destination (and not just on game day). Millions in tax revenue leaves the state each day to Conn. The moonbats are using the worst economic time of our lives to show that a casino won't work........

when Hanover would crawl out of its hole. Long time no see. If maybe you left your arm chair once in a while and cancelled your subscription to Gamblers Quarterly and actually talk to people in the surounding communities of these "economic engines", they'd tell you something different. The casinos have caused only trouble and did nothing to bring economic development to them. One big sucking sound they are.
You mean moonbats like Therese Murray or Deval Patrick?
Millions in tax revenue leave for NH too, so lets lower the sales tax.
Twin River again was proposed for the reason to recapture all that revenue RI was sending to CT and it didn't work. It won't happen in MA either.
Look at the numbers

"During the year that ended on June 30, that translated into $242.3 million for the state,$110.3 for Twin River’s owners,$27.7 for the machine providers, another $9.9 million for the Providence-based GTECH as the central-system operator,$5.7 million for the Town of Lincoln and $674,130 for the Narragansett Indian Tribe, which has no role in Twin River’s operation or ownership"

How many are still working because of Twin Rivers as small as it is.. Its an econmic engine for RI.. You know it is.. The numbers prove it.. Even during the worsteconomic times in history.. It is supporting 1000s if not 100's of thousands....

Lower the sales tax??? How's your rabbit hole? How long have you lived in MA??? Once a revenue stream starts in this state, it is never going away......(or decreasing).

Ever spend much time in a casino? I travel to alot of conventions as part of my business. I see alot of the worst kind of people in casinos. People stumbling around drunk; I've seen grown men crying (literally) on their buddies shoulder saying, "I can't believe I just did that, my wife is going to kill me." I've been approached by prostitutes on more than one occasion. Addicts, alcoholics, prostitutes. Why would we want that in our town?

As a business professional you support something you hate? Why do you work for company that supports a business you are morally against.

You are just a hypocrite that is part of the problem you complain about. Stop supporting all of that and get another job.

You must be on the government payroll as you clearly don't understand much about working for a living.

simple to understand you work takes place in casinos.

It is simple to understand your work dollars support casinos. It simple to understand you are prostituting your belief that casinos are morally wrong because you have to work occasionally in a casino. There is no shame. You need to work and your work happens to support the gambling business. You are unwilling to sacrifice your job for your convictions. just don't blame others for wanting to also be able to make a living from casino related activities.
