Disappointing and worrisome

Full story: Lake County Record-Bee

It is disappointing and worrisome that Proposition C passed in Lakeport. When we have a fire and/or injuries resulting from use of personal fireworks sold in Lakeport, those avid supporters of the proposition will certainly come to my mind.

Measure C is an example of the worst kind of politics in our land. An initiative backed by a company who stands to profit from their lobbying efforts. This on a larger scale is what goes on in Sacramento and Washington day in-day out. It's not necessarily what's good for the people, but certainly what's good for the fireworks manufacturer/distributor. All in the name of helping our youth groups, which I will always support in some way. Followingthe logic of the C supporters, why not sell tobacco and alcohol to minors and have the profits go to fund sports programs. Or is that too much like playing with matches?

Using your line of thinking when someone gets drunk, drives, and kills a bus-load of children I should blame Kathy Fowler because she sold them the car? Maybe we should blame everyone who is in favor of driving?

The American way is to wait for a disaster that could have been prevented, then complain about the fact that it wasn't prevented. We then hold hearings for a few years and come up with a new law that is 1,200 pages long and has so many loopholes that the problem isn't really solved, just mitigated. Maybe next year, or 5 years from now, someone's home will be burned down, maybe even a life lost and everyone will wonder why we ever let this happen. Pathetic.

curious George: No.The point is that if you are stopping fireworks for fear of fire and that seems to be the case. Then how far are we willing to go? I'm at a loss how you came to your conclusions. when I was talking about fear. Then if you are going to run you life out of fear then don't get in you vehicle. With the choosing its that individuals responsibility.

you got it wrong, here's what happened: people agreed a one-year ban was a good idea due to extreme fire conditions and lack of local crews, then ban gets made permenant because Wells used bogus data to make his case and three city council members (bertsch, parmentier and rumfelt), had as usual made up their minds BEFORE hearing ANY testimony from the experts or public.
This decision was a subversion of democracy and was based on fear not facts, the voters corrected this on Tuesday.

legal fireworks are a managable danger, now we have to prove that by being responsible and careful, just like we do everytime we do anything with an element of risk.

It is illegal to sell fireworks to minors. Did you think we could? Is it too hard to believe that parents will be responsible enough to not hand over fireworks to their children? The company that backed this iniative will profit - no doubt. However, four youth organizations will also profit and for that I am grateful that Prop C passed. Thank you voters!!!

curious George: No problem,I did not take it personal. I just come from a point that there is so many other problems that is not being addressed with the same intensity as fireworks. We allow persons to exist, that prey on our children and we don't ban them.

We should do something to those pervs with fireworks. Sort of combine the two issues. Public emasculation by explosives would be neat.
by "those pervs" you mean your family members or friends? You seem to be speaking from experience, so this is how you lost yours?
Or did you ever have them? Come to think of it, who cares? You may return to your sewer drain pipe now, we'll call if we need you.

I know what you mean. The school busses have kids smoking pot, having sex, and even more amazing NO SEAT BELTS. The schools answer? We can't afford to do anything about it. Where is the outrage? Instead we get Mr. Grant supplying us with us with fantasies of children running through the dry grass with sparklers, setting off forest fires. Shameful.
