It's too late to worry about it.

Don't worry, growth has nowhere else to go, it'll eventually reach Frostproof.

thanks to our free trade which is putting citrus growers out of business because other countries keep under cutting us. our family farm is just breaking even, another slice of old florida disappearing rapidly. more weakening of america on the global front and over-developement will take it's toll on the natural resources of Florida.

To all the people that hate growth so much, how long have you lived here? Aren't you part of the growth problem? I've lived in Florida for 25 years does that give me the right to tell everyone whose moved here in that 25 years to get the heck out of the state?

Kind of. Ben Hill Griffin III is the son of the man the stadium is named after. It's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field. Hill is Ben Hill Griffin IV. |

That would be correct. |

What a boring and useless story...who cares about Frostproof. The 10 or 20 people who live there??

So, the wealthy and prominent family who has the most and really doesn't have anything to sweat tells all the folks who are losing their lively hoods not to worry, because 60 years ago this happened, and they survived just fine...except that half the town was lost, and the world doesn't work the same way it did 60 years ago. Nice to live in a protected world and see it through rose-colored glasses. Mind if we borrow those in the bread line? then maybe things wont' seem so bad. growth is inevitable, unless you actually fight against it. How you grow is what defines you as a town, and community. there is such a thing as "smart growth " and if you have the right-minded leaders, then it is possible to look forward to a future, instead of sitting in your porch rockers watching all your neighbors move away or die off.
If you have no businesses, you have no families, no families, is no schools, or groceries, or hospitals, etc, etc... town death sneaks up on you before you know what happened. Good Luck, FrostProof |

Bye bye, Frostproof. Bye bye. BYE BYYYYYYYYYE!
|

That's an unkind thing to say. We natives and longtime central Floridians care about an old way of life that is disappearing. I miss driving down 27 and seeing nothing but groves. I realize you're probably from Ohio and couldn't care less about the way things were before your Super Walmart was built here for you, but how about thinking of someone other than yourself? |

1 If you have a problem with the belssings God has given them maybe you should look back at the past generations of your family and shun them for not sticking their necks on the line in a business as volitile as agriculture. The Griffin like many large ag families in Florida have had to endure hardships just as everyone else. Dont blame them for being blessed! |

Fifth generation Floridian here. Take you growth back up North. Biff ? My neighbor has a dog named Biff. |

1 The North stomped all over your Confederate butts the last time you all refused to adapt to change and evolve into a more sophisticated society. Some of the ideas posted by locals seem to indicate that not only would you prefer the North to go away, but you would just as soon turn back the clock to a time where slavery existed. Change is inevitable- if you resist it, you will fade away, just like this town. |

Lake Letta disappeared. Why not Frostproof?

Wow I've forgotten how much I miss Old Florida. Growing up here was great. We knew all of our neighbors, we walked to school with no worries and going to UF, FSU and Miami football games since I was old enough to walk (I'm a UCF grad and fan now!)Someone said who cares well I do but change is going to happen but we will never forget the old days. Thanks to the Sentinel for bringing me back to those days!!
