Lake Providence is considered the poorest town in America not just Louisiana. This came about, when the Census 2000 reviewed Lake Providence. They saw, no jobs, parks, major food stores and etc. All they saw was the torn homes/buildings and us guys hanging on the blocks selling to our own people. That is why we are considered the poorest town in America. Neither did they know, LakeProvidence has plenty of money. We just dont have the Leaders to put the money in good use. Instead they pocket the money and keep it for personal use. My people, be strong and you will be a survivor. KEEP GOD FIRST!!!

We were warned by Franklin to beware the rule of inherited wealth, i wrote that our commonality is our humanity, that everyone is a human being with a mind and a history, that i respect you because you are, and that a man is not measured by the thickness of his portfolio but by the weight of his social conscience. Greed will bury us. I was in the Bahamas and on nassau saw the terrible poverty right next to the off shore banks where the rich hide their money. Disgusting.

Lexington NC must be one of the poorest places on Earth. The town uses force to annex neighbor against their will to steal via taxes and the state of NC allows it.
Lexingtontruth.com

If you ever move NC is the worst place and Lexington is even worse.
If God gave the earth an enema Lexington may have the in and the out connection.

I lived in Lake Providence La., and my family lived there more than I and it was "the poorest town in America." There were more families on welfare there than anywhere else.

Questions about why Congressman William Jefferson did nothing to help his home town of Lake Providence. He served on Capital Hill 16 years with power and authority and never offered or considered helping his home town. After 16 years the town is still known as the POOREST town in America.

Hey, I used to live there. The cops would stop you and then tell you if you just 'paid them the cash', you could be on your way and not have to go to court! Thank God I got out before my teeth rotted out like most of those poor people.

What happened to Lake Providence over the years? It used to have nice homes on the lake even if the lake was totaly poluted? What did people used to make a living doing around there before it became so poor? Something must have happened to either the people with some money got tired of what was around them or jobs left town and everyone went broke!

If there is nothing there you cant expect the government to take care of all the people that have decided to stay in towm and suffer it out waiting for Mr Jefferson to make changes. If the town of lake providence waits on government it will always be a poverty stricken, welfare driven community! The people need to get a GED or some technical school training if they dont already have and move to where there is work. As a black man I feel like I can say" I think the white man got enough, moved off and left it with them!" U see what is left!

Yes it has been said that our town was the poorest town in the US but .Whenever i visit i still feel the love their. People say a lot but never do what they promise. Thats why its the way it is. .It's the same way ,it you don't clean your house it will be a mess. but if you clean up your house it will stand out like new money. so we need to stop putting down our town and find a way to get it back on the map. in a blessed way. GOD still stand over LAKE PROVIDENCE. ILOVE LAKE PROVIDENCE.

There are hard workers everywhere but i dont think the US Census Bureau has it out for Lake Providence and tryig to just make them look bad with made up statistics. A town is only as good as the people living there. There are times that people have to pick up and move on somewhere different for a better life. The ones who chose to stay have accepted their future in L.P. Those who have moved always say they are glad they left. I know God can change things for people but he also expects people to use simple logic and try to help themselves not just sit in a corner and wait to be rescued. I dont think there will ever be any great industry in that area because when the companies look around they see what they would have for employees! Like I said before there are hard workers everywhere just not enough left in Lake Providence!

when the 2000 census was done Lake Providence was one of the towns of (9 parishes in the State of Louyisiana considered to be the poorest in the Nation). Some of the other 8 Parishes have began to prosper by bringing the people together with local, state, and fed goverment to help themselves.

I was raised on Mason, we lived on East Carroll side. My Mama and Daddy still live where I was raised. When I decided to have children I moved and I will never go back. There is nothing there unless you want to babysit prisoners or work on a farm. The schools are a joke and most people are scared to go to town, the law has the power to do what ever and get away with it. Lake Providence should be called THE FORGOTTEN LAND instead of the poorest town in America.
