Hello Marie,
Maybe I am biased but I grew up and have lived in Lake Mary for 18+ Years. Attended middle school and high school here. I have a best friend that I grew up with that now has 3 kids, 7, 2, 1. She wouldnt trade living in the Seminole County area for anything. It's the wealthiest county per capita and has state ranked schools. Granted Northern schools normally trump the south. Another great resource on schools that isnt biased is www.greatschools.net . I used to work for Winter Springs High and Seminole county public schools so their sites of course are going to be biased towards them. Lake Mary has so much to offer and do. Any type of restaurant or grocery shopping you could imagine is within steps of your door, libraries, rec areas, a little nightlife, movie theaters, if you want it it's there. If you would like more information on relocating to this area please let me know. This is one of my specialties. hjoubran@earthlink.net or www.Centralfloridaluxuryestates.com |

thanks for the info, a little busy right now, but can't wait to check into the schools a little further,,, also need to start looking for employment, again I have to say that the postings on city-data are not good about anything including your chances of finding a good paying job,,,///.I really need to stay away from that site, because you only confirmed what we have witnessed on our visits to your area.... a beautiful place!! again thanks...

we also moved to lake mary from nj a few months ago and it is truly a great area. there is so much to do here and it is 45 minutes to the theme parks. so far the schools seem very good. i hear that lake mary and lake brantley (longwood) are 2 of the best high schools. oviedo also has great schools, but lake mary is a much prettier area and is a much better loction. good luck!

I was born in NJ and moved to Lake Mary when I was 7. I lived there until I graudated high school and attended college in Tampa. After graduating, I moved back up to NJ to work in Manhatten and I want to come back! I will stay here and work for a little but I will for sure move back to Lake Mary to raise my kids (when I have them!).

I'm from New Jersey and moved down to Lake Mary when I was 6. The schools are the best around and there's a lot of stuff for your kids to do.
TOO BAD IT RAINS ALL THE TIME. |

thanks for feedback...the weather is starting to change up here, so that along with all of your positive remarks are helping to make my decision a little easier.... it's really good to hear from people who have moved from jersey and how we live up here...
thanks again |

Hi Gabby,, thanks for taking the time to write, about the rain, isn't Lake Mary like Orlando, raining one minute sunny the next,,, or is it more like West Palm Beach where my inlaws live,, there it rains a lot?? How about driving in it, that is one thing that scares me,, on the road with those big trucks and the way the water from their tires "blind you" when you are near them? well again, thanks I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to respond,, |
||||

I know that your question was directed to Gabby but the driving is A LOT EASIER in Florida. Its not nearly as aggressive. People yield more in Florida and the fact that you can make left hand turns is a plus. Coming from Florida and driving up here makes me very anxious because it is so fast paced and aggressive. I would 100% say Florida is an easier place to drive even with the rain and that has a lot to do with the fact the people dont mind taking their time in Florida. If its raining, we slow down.

Marie, we moved from NJ in 05 to Lake Mary and we love it, A+ school district. It's a completely different lifestyle. Coming from NJ, the weather here is heaven. It's only rainy, hot and humid from about mid June till the end of Sept. The rest of the year is beautiful. I'd take 4 mons of heat and humidity any day to never experience those NJ winters again. Also, during that time, it rains usually every afternoon, thunderstorms, then it's over.

given the state of the economy the job market is pretty bleak but you can get some great deals on a home, either short sales or foreclosures...

to all who are taking the time to respond to my questions, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! You are all helping me immensely in my research...Good to hear about the schools, need to get through four more years of high school before our last is ready for college, It is especially great to get feedback from former residents of New Jersey.. Yeah the job market right now is bleak right now, but one can only hope that the future will be brighter...especially the supermarket field, my husband has been a manager for over twenty-five years. Again, thanks to all, looking forward to anything anyone has to add to my " research"

I live in Lake Mary and pretty much work anywhere my company sends me. I've spent the last couple of years working in Fairfield, NJ and I've experienced everything the north has to offer in seasons, driving, and social interaction but every weekend I'm flying back back to Orlando and to my home in Lake Mary.
A couple of years ago Lake Mary was the 4th best city to live in the United States. If you haven't already done it, move down and enjoy your time here. |
||||
|
Thanks Shawn, Fairfield is just a stone's throw from where we live, so it is great to get the opinion of someone who actually knows where and how we live here in Jersey. Right now I am ready to head to Lake Mary, but need to put our house on the market and sell it before we can head down south,,,Hopefully, I will still have the nerve to do it once our housing situation is settled up here. Again thanks for taking the time to share... It really is quite helpful.....

good luck, check yourself when you mention the word NORTH theres a southern ladies club who meets privatly and good conections with the right people, what im saying is mind your own busniness and dont expect an apple pie or a key lime or a wellcome wagon check thimgs out around where you are going to buy.The local police dept keep all the records for 911 calls or nieghbor disbutes I love Lake Mary I moved here 7 years ago x nyer MY advice to you is stay out of site out of mind.Stay away from HOAS They hear your accent when you talk and thats it.Were moving as soon as the market gets alittle better but let me tell these southern bells with alot of time in there hands can make your life misreble and there very nosiy asking questions? what are you planting? thats agaist HOA rules im turning you in kind of crap.After all America is big check out the west side of the country too good luck

LOL...been in Heathrow for over a decade and that is true years back. It has changed though the HOA has relaxed now because younger families have come. So much has changed in Lake Mary/ Heathrow. I miss the time when you see people going horseback riding across the Heathrow front gate. No walgreens, no panera... that used to be green fields where there would be an annual fair. It used to be a lot quieter and prettier... |

Hello, our family moved from Piscataway, NJ to Lake Mary in 1998. We too have 3 kids, when we moved here, our youngest were 10 and 12 years old, they addapted really well, the schools are Very Good (compared to the rest of the State) Florida also offers Bright Futures which is program which pays tuition for Florida residents at any of the Florida State Universities. My daughter who was 12 when we moved here is now a graduate of UF and my son is in his second year at UF. Overall, it was a GREAT MOVE for our family!!!! Good Luck!! |

Hi Marie... I saw your post from 08 and thought I'd try and ask you a few questions. My husband and I are wanting to relocate to Lake Mary. We curently live in Peoria IL and are really wanting the warmer climate b/c of my husbands injury. Cold weather really provokes it. I'm pretty confident that the schools are great but my question is more about the community. I've read that there is no income tax in Lake Mary. How does that work?!? Also, I keep seeing posotive comments about Heathrow. Is this the best neighborhood in Lake Mary? We're wanting to come check things out in 3 weeks or so. We've already found a property that we're in love with and just want to check out the community. Should we look you up when we get there? Please let me know!! Thanks!! my email is bowaldfamily@hotmail.com
