My grandparents lived in Bobtown. I would visit and vacation there in the mid 50's to early 60's.
Many of the pictures are very familiar and I'll confirm with Mom (in her 90's). Grandfather was a coalminer (name of mine, please?) They lived in company homes, poor plumbing, walked a block or so to the pump for fresh tasting water, many other memories as a small child--all positive.

My mother grew up in Bobtown, PA - Her name was Diana Novak. Her brother stills lives in town and we have not been back there since my grandmother passes away in December 1999. Her name was Ruby Novak. I remember going up there and spending time in a quiet little town when my sister and I could walk to the little store and get candy. I also remember the fish fry that they had every summer and the quarter games of Bingo at the Fire Hall. Does anyone remember my mom?

Steve E: The mine was the Shannopin Mine at the bottom of the hill along Dunkard Creek, which used to run bright orange from the mine drainage.

My Grandparents, Anton and Elizabeth Katschinsky and my mother, Elizabeth Ryan, brought up my sister Sharon (deceased) and my brother, Sean and I, in House 402 Bobtown. I elect to remember good neighbors (McClure's, Musick's and Burless' etc.) and friends (Gasti's, Caldwell's, Moody's and Wiley's). You always felt safe playing baseball by the Little Store or basketball behind the Community Building. Christmas was special with Santa (Ham Pekar) and Halloween was marked by racking houses and trick or trating. I remember the town supported events on Memorial Day, Christmas and Easter. The Fire Dept. had fish frys during Lent and took time to put a fire out and empty a cellar of rain water. We had the "behind the schoolhouse", "double row", "circle", and other areas who assembled on Saturdays to play each other in a seasonal sport. I believe that I was fortunate to have grown up in a town where neighbors honestly cared about each other and welcomed their successes and mourned their losses. Although I occasionally drive through the town today and see the changes, I elect to remember the Bobtown of the past and thank God that I had the opportunity to grow up there.

I grew up in Dilliner and went to Bobtown School and Graduated Mapletown in '76. I've been away since 1980, but recently had the chance to bring my 2 sons down to visit my sister and brother. I was amazed at how really little the area seemed to have changed. It made me truly homesick. I now live in Baltimore and have 8 grandchildren. Isn't life great???

Daily Horoscope for November 28

Sagittarius

You may want to do things on the spur of the moment, but pay attention to detail if you want to avoid unexpected expenses. Even a last-minute decision to go for a bike ride could end up with an injury or a flat tire, so try to think your actions out carefully. Once unpredictable Uranus settles down, you can enjoy a more relaxed attitude towards life. This evening you can let your hair down.
