Strange lights in the sky

Does anyone have any information about the strange big light in the sky above the Huntley/Carpentersville/I-90 area on Sunday, October 25, 2009, around 8:30 pm? When we called 911 they said the police was already investigating due to other reports. I have been watching all the news channels from that night and searching on the web looking for an explanation but I haven't found anything at all.

oh that. the humongus cigar-shaped UFO from zorkon 7? i ordered a martian pizza with extra pepperoni and qurzpytumzi on it. they deliver in that thing.

My wife and I where headed to Marengo coming from Belvidere around 8:30. We were headed east on route 20. She was looking out the right side of the car. She suddenly asked me, what is that over there. It was the strangest thing I ever saw. From our location, it looked like a vertical cigar that was translucent. The ends came to a point. The ends did not go all the way to the ground or the clouds. It looked like it lit up in the middle first, and then the light traveled to the tips. As we drove some trees blocked our view. When we could see again, it was gone. But, it doesn't stop there.

When we reached Marengo, I stopped into a local bar where I know the owner. I started telling him the story. He said, he saw it too. But, he was heading north on route 23. He said he didn't see the cigar shape. However, he said that the tip towards the clouds "burned a hole in the cloud cover". It evaporated a hole in the clouds. We where very close to it. That thing was west of route 23 & south of route 20.

Yes I was walking the dog looking to the east and seen these! Long vertical bright strips of light. If I recall a few different colors. At first tought it was some kind of lazar show, but there was no connection of thease to the ground,they were habging in mid-air!. A bout 90 deegrees to the North I could see a faint marking in the sky like the light bars but barley visible. The whole time was about 30 seconds. Strangest thing.

I saw it to, weird! No one has found out what it was?

It's part of a new laser range finding system to route traffic more efficiently through Ohare airport, part of the expansion project. Mayor Daley spoke of it a few months back. It's being tested now on a limited basis before the other new runways are completed.

When operational it will not be visible to the naked eye, just visible now for calibration/testing.
