Review of Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic, Wisconsin:
I took in two stray kittens that were badly undernourished and I wanted to get them checked out today, as they were pretty sick. The only option as far as I knew, in Elkhorn, was this clinic. I called in advance to check on their prices and planned to get them vaccinated for about $55 each - which was fine for me. I took them there and a woman did an exam, then the doctor entered for just 2-3 minutes and he told me the sex of the kittens and that they had ear mites (which I knew).
As I left, I was given a bill for $250!!! I was there for probably less than 20 minutes total - and the doctor charged me $51.50 per kitten that he "examined." With him being in the room for just over 2 minutes, I practically paid him $50 per Minute of his time! That is way more expensive than for me to see a doctor, as a human.
When I left, I was pretty upset about it all - considering the $250 did not even include the vaccinations. I was told to come back for them - probably for a series of other charges to be tacked on.
I also saw that the doctor charged me an extra $20 for telling me that my cat had ear mites - which I already knew. They said he did an exam, which I was not aware of somehow. Plus, come to think of it, I didn't ask him to do a special ear cytology exam - without telling me and informing me of the charges in advance. The system there was pretty outrageous to me. If the doc had spent a good deal of time examining them, I suppose I'd understand the outrageous charges - but with just a few moments of his time - it's just ridiculous.
After I left the clinic, I called there to ask about the charges and to explain my feelings on it. I also told them to throw away my files as I'd find another place to go to. I was just trying to care for the strays, who would have most likely died. I was in and out so quickly, with a $250 bill - it just isn't right.
If you are thinking of going to Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic, you may want to think twice. I used to volunteer at a humane society and I know the standard costs - I should have gone to one rather than going to this vet clinic.

Sure they were strays. They are probably yours and you wanted free care. Next time drive the extra 2 miles and take them to the shelter

Hi Phish. I drove all the way to Watertown with my little 4 yr old son just two days ago, to go pickup these two kittens and take care of them. Someone posted an ad on craigslist - she didn't say the kitties were sick, but that they were strays which lived under her home (she fed them only bread).

I definitely did NOT expect anything for free. I expected the prices that they quoted, and didn't expect to have them do procedures without asking me (and charging a lot of money for them). I definitely understand there are costs to having pets, especially sick ones. I just expected the prices which I was quoted, and reasonable and fair service. I called around after leaving there, so I found "Community Cats," in Watertown - so when the kittens are better in a couple of weeks they can get the vaccines and spays. Anyway, Phish - your comment was pretty rude - but that's ok. I Just wanted to inform people of my honest experience there. Times are tough now and prices like that do not help.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Libra

Someone is shooting from the hip today, making them irascible and all too liable to fly off the handle. Be very wary about provoking them into further outbursts, particularly where the vexed topics of money and sex are concerned. If you're trying to sort out a financial problem you will also be prone to losing your rag and banging your fist on the table. But will that help?
