yes, the cities of sodom and gomorrah were destroyed... but by what's known as a 'bituminous eruption' caused by earth quake activity along the fault line that they, and two other cities of the plain of siden were built.

granted, to the uneducated, and superstitious eye of an overly religious sheep herder standing on a mountain several miles away it probably looked pretty damned spectacular... even maybe like something that an angry, vengeful deity might do... but them again you can't believe everything that someone writes. maybe it's time that you studied the geological studies of the area, and the torah, rather than listening to someone read second hand information to you from an often mistranslated, misinterpreted book.
