What a tragedy for the dog and all involved! However, I see on news4jax.com , it looks like fired police officer Rudolph Davis making comments on this story. Now one wonders what would motivate Davis to put in his two cents? Is he an animal lover, does he see the possibility of another discrimination complaint, or could it be that he is beginning to discredit the Sheriff's Department to facilitate his run for the job as Columbia County Sheriff in the future????

It's total bullcrap that officer Davis wasnt arrested for what he did. What is he above the law just because hes a cop. Even if it was an accident people go to jail for far lesser violations that dont hurt anyone. Officer Davis should do at least a year because he killed a police officer so what is this crap. Should he at least get manslaughter. If a criminal shoots a police dog thats trying to hurt him he goes to jail for a long time. This is even worse because the killer a person whos job it was to take care of the dog. The fact that this guy plans on running for sherrif just goes to show how shitty lake shitty really is.

Davis is not the K-9 who left the dog in the car. Davis is the police officer who was fired from the Lake Police Department when he failed to support the new police chief. SOme how, he was contacted by the tv news to make comments on this issue.

A K9 is considered an officer of the law, and you can get charged as such if you harm one, even to the point of Battery on a LEO, so someone should be charged for this just the same, under the same law. Or are the officers above the law?

I know this officer and he doesn't deserve to go to jail!! remember the news does not always report the truth!!! BTW he is a good officer so until yall know the facts I do NOT think u should be commenting! as far as LCPD officers being able to do what they want and get away with it, another STUPID statement!!!1

Davis was NOT fired because he didn't support the new Chief! I didn't shed a tear over his termination that's for sure! The only person Davis looked out for was himself! He was the worst leader I ever had the displeasure of working under!

why could we not just leave the patrol car running with ac on when you out and k9 dog is in car?

police cars sit and idle all the time. its not uncommon

lack of common sense here i think . this is florida , this is the summer

its hot and he has a fur coat on!

yes if some civilian had caused this k9 dogs death you would pay dearly

his handler should not be emempt and in my opinion should be required to repay for this department property
