Rene and Laughlin Barker first met in 1938 at Santa Fe High School, then were reunited during World War II in San Francisco and have been together ever since.

What a nice story about just living happy and peacefully. Rather than all the negativity, DUIs, theft, stupid posted comments, etc etc, this is such a breath of fresh air. Thanks!

I look forward to reading these stories every week about the richness of the legacies of our elders. Many of the people Ms. Pacheco writes about have been honored as "Santa Fe Living Treasures," as has Laughlin Barker.
They are a delightful couple and I have enjoyed a brief acquaintance with them.
Another interesting fact about Mr. Barker's life (to me) is that his mother, Ruth Laughlin, was a well-known author whose novel about Dona Tules, THE WIND LEAVES NO SHADOW, is still a very popular book on the lists of Santa Fe's literature.
