I guess we need to learn to sell oranges and roses on street corners for when things get rough.

There was a 7 year period that I was homeless with my spouse (due to permanent disabilities prior to my early retirements & disabled worker claim benefits from Social Security, not SSI). How did it happen? Home foreclosure during waiting period from approved claim from SSA. We struggled and got very creative and had a focused goal of buying our own mobile home. It was finally reached by our own efforts. But attributing laziness and drug addiction is such a cop out and had we gone that route, I wouldn't be typing this. Also true is the high percentage of transient white adult males in comparison to other "minorities." We also used a tent for a time, but not as temporary living quarters, just to pitch and sleep and get rolling early towards our mutual goal. I believe that without a self designation goal to focus on, there is no motivation to spur oneself with and all the assistance can not provide that, charity or not.

What hard labor have you put into building this "empire"? Or for that matter what hard labor has anyone less than 80 years of age put into building this "great empire"? Me, you, and the rest of us TV watching, fast food eating, newer car driving, wal-mart shopping, 1000+ square foot house living, video game playing, uninformed populous is living off the fruits of the labor of generations long past.

Why don't they go work on the fields,always complaining another race took their work,no instead their in the corners or offramps asking for money.Go out to the fields and and work with the migrant worker for long hours of backbreaking work and low paying jobs and see how long you last,before you start complaining about how you lost your position to the migrant worker.

undercutting wages is a cop out argument....i love this article...the owners of these businesses that "undercut" wages are primarily anglose who understand that they get more bang for their buck...if an immigrant comes to this country and outworks you, your fault...u should have taken advantage of the educational opportunities and not put yourself in a position where you have to compete with an immigrant in the first place....

Corporate America took the WHITE mans job, not illigal aliens.However, I agree with you as far as this article being racist.

They aren't white, they are European Americans. Just like Afro Americans & Mexican Americans. Bet you wouldn't call them black or brown.

Hey Colton Native- go to another part of the country where there is not a huge Latino population and you will see plenty of white and black people doing the jobs you speak of. Latinos have the crappy job market locked up here. This is a goofy article to make Chicano white haters feel good about their damp backed brethren washing dishes, mowing lawns, selling pillows, cramming themselves into apartments and using food stamps. Do like Cheech sang years ago and go take Spanish and get a B.

Sir, I am not speaking for them but only myself. My family and I came to California so I may attend a 4 year medical school. I need apart time job at the very least to pay all the mounting bills etc.
I worked back in the South in the Automotive industry, but am unable to find ANY work here because I do not speak Spanish.I have applied to landscape companies, everything I can think of.
Even fast food restaurants prefer to hire those who speak Spanish, and yes sir I have worked long hours working the hay and tobacco fields.
