Well that struck a nerve! Let them (the nurses) go to school for 10 to 12 years and then they will be equal!
My wife is a nurse going on 25 years. I would be rich just getting a nickel for everytime she would share with me when she saved a doctor's hide because the doctor was negligent in perform his/her duties regarding patient care. If anyone should be getting free lunches it should be the nurses. THEY are the ones that do the doctor's dirty work and also cover the doctor's ass when the doctors are too arrogant to admit to a mistake (oh, yea ... right ... to admit a mistake would be a lawsuit). Also, now ah days it seems the doctors are practicing medicine electronically, via cell phones. Between having hospitalists, physician assistants, nurse practicioners, the doctors no longer need to be the eyes and ears on medical rounds anymore. If there is a problem just give the doc a call and all probs will be solved (usually NOT!). So when they do come in they get a free lunch too!? If there are any doctors out there reading this what you should be doing, instead of benefiting from the free lunch program is donating to a fund to pay for hard working/under appreciated nurses to have access to free lunches. |

Amen to Mr. Skeen! While the janitors at the hospital are very important, having happy and excellent janitors but crappy doctors is not a recipe for success. Don't capitulate to the politics of class envy so easily. People who work as hard as doctors to get to their positions, usually at great financial sacrifice to get there, are entitled to a few perks. I hope they get free reserved parking, free embroidered lab coats, and free lunches.
Sorry folks, as proud as I am of what I"ve done with my life, I'm not about to put myself on par with a doctor when I'm in a hospital. If I got a job there as an orderly or an administrator, I wouldn't look at a doctor's free lunch and say "they don't deserve that!". They sure as heck do. If I don't like it, I can go become a doctor. Does no one believe in capitalism anymore? |

As far as free lunch is concern, I do not care much about it, but is obviously another point for a "socialist" discussion. I did not go to college, med school post grad training, to earn free lunch, is even shameful to see the nurses comparing their parking lot with the doctors. I could say the same thing of I compare the docs lot with the NBA players parking lot , but again I wouldn't since I barely know how to play basketball on a video game.
If the nurse in the prior comment "eats" my liability as a doctor, I will give her my free lunch and dinner. Ridiculous. |

Do not lose sight of the big picture.......it is "HOSPITAL FOOD"......crappy cuisine at any price.......I would not eat it,even if for free.
