OMG!
At 40 seconds into that film... the people coming out of Bob and Marie's... that is my uncle Howard and my aunt Peggy as children and my grandmother Irene and my grandfather Nelson "Pete" Gilliam before my father was born! Did y'all see all of the activity... all the people? That was before the mall's killed small town America. |

Notice how much healthier people were back then. There are no overweight people in that video. I love the old theater and gas stations. Laporte downtown was definitely alive. When you drive through old towns in Colorado, they are all still doing good business. Its really neat. Wish we could get some of that magic here.

Please, Mr. Fed, this video was posted for enjoyment and enlightenment of our past here in this fine city. Please do not use it as a platform for your personal negative feelings.
Thank you for your consideration. |

Even though my "personal negative feelings" are valid? Sounds a bit elitist to me. You must work for the City, huh? Yeah... they don't believe in our Constitution either. I believe my personal "positive" feelings about this City are extremely valid. No matter how YOU perceive them. |

Oh, the good old days. I remember this La Porte. In a whole lot of ways the town has not changed. The people in it, maybe. The drugs that messed up our youngs outlook on life. I remember the worst thing you could do was sneak into Ernies. Lunday's service station. James' Drive-in. DeVolls. Minimax was the place to shop. Was it Navaho's grocery on Main? Mouton's laundry was a very progressive move. And if you had money, Mrs. Mouton did your laundry. I think the difference in our physical beings is there weren't that many fast food places and if you did go, it was a treat. Dr. Dunn....the fruit stand.... I could keep on with these memories. Thanks for whoever shared this video. Even the music fit. |

I remember going to the theater every other Saturday or so... watching a movie, drink and candy... then stopping off at Hovey's to watch the trains and look at toys for an hour or so. Then I'd stop in at Pal's pharmacy, look at the model airplane selection, pick one out and have a malt made by my aunt Peggy who worked there, and then on the walk back home stop off at the feed store and if I had any money left over from my four dollar allowance I buy a baby chic or two to add to our flock at home.

Granny, you're back. Glad to hear from you again.

Thank you, bayfisher. I decided not to take anything personal from negative people. Just took me a while to reason with myself. Too many interesting people on this forum. |
||||
|
You can't take anything personal. I have seen from the forum where the poor lady jumped off the bridge that there are a lot of people that read but don't respond here. We need to stop all the bickering and allow people to have their opinions. I for one would like to hear from these people. Name calling is going to get us nowhere. Besides, we are all adults (I think) and our opinions are pretty much not going to change no matter what anyone says.
|
||||
|
You are absolutely correct about our adult opinions. I read about that poor troubled lady and didn't respond. But I sure would like to know that her family is at peace with her decision. The Lord has a special place for confused souls.

That was a neat video. The fire station and old courthouse look exactly the same. The traffic on Main Street was so neat to watch. I liked seeing the school with the windows open and people looked like they were going to eat lunch on the lawn. Thanks for finding and sharing that! |
