What does that mean?

Well then League Rep you should keep your comments to yourself as well since your address says you live in Whittier. If you had a brain however, you would realize that it represents your ISP location and not your physical location.

the tax dollars ARE NOT going to the fields! Thats why they're imposing this fee. Them dry dragging the fields and not knowing what they're doing is what has caused the lip on all of the fields in the city. They are dangerous! I've always tried to tell my player to either get it before the lip or stay back enough to play it when it pops up! It just really bites that they're adding this now, when so many families are hurting..leagues have raised fees, and now this..if you have more than one child playing, especially if more than one sport per year, it's going to really hurt!

I understand people can be upset about the condition of the playing fields but most are ignorant to how the process works. First, the city has been paying 100% for the maintenance of the fields for years. This includes water, mowing, diamond dirt, and personnel. They also heavily subsidize the lighting. Second, LM has a lot of parks and limited personnel to maintain them. Third, there are multiple leagues (baseball & soccer) that use them nearly year round. Not to mention general citizen use. Fourth, every league signs a "Usage Agreement" that states they may also perform maintenance on the fields except; heavy maintenance. This would include using heavy equipment, digging holes in the grass, etc... In a nutshell, you need to help maintain the place where you play. If you have lips in your infield it is your responsibility to help get rid of them. You can download a professional guide for field maintenance from "Turface" and get busy. Or, you can complain about it and do nothing. Two things you can immediately do; Stop dragging your infields like you are at NASCAR. Slow down. Infields should be dragged at walking speed only. Areas within 2 feet of the grass should be brushed with a broom. To really knock down the lip, backwash it with a hose just like washing out a carpet. Lastly, be thankful you only have to pay an extra $10. Many leagues have far worse conditions and pay more.

do need to maintain fields as well..& I've seen some that do, But, as for them actually doing a major correction to the problems, they are not allowed to do that. also..general citizens rarely get to use Behringer! There are signs posted that the fields are closed a lot of the time that leagues are not using them, and when they are up, you are not allowed to be anywhere near there! ..The land was given by Chevron, so the city has only had to upkeep. If they didnt spend time/money/workers fixing things around the city that DONT need fixing, there'd be plenty leftover for the things that do!!

The mowing of the lawns is contracted out. Diamond dirt has been donated in the past by the Dodgers, but the city would not send a truck down there to pick it up. The lighting has not been subsidized by the city of LM. They have been charging the leagues that have been using the lighting all along. It was $28.00/hr, and just went up $32.00/hr which comes out of the leagues funds, not out of the $10.00 usage fee. The city might have alot of parks but it is the state of California that has a law that states that for so many households there must be so much park space for the residents in that area. There are multiply leagues that use the fields but the land was left by Chevron Oil Co. for the use of leagues to use, not the city of LM. Every league does have a usage agreement, but were're not allowed to use heavy equipment to fix the lips on the field. It would take a sod cutter and a tractor which the city will not let us use on the fields. In a nutshell theyr'e the ones who drag the field 95% of the time. backwash the fields at the lip, the fields would be too muddy to use! Most leages don`t pay a usage fee to use the fields, and that is what the city is asking us to do. So, it really isn't fair that because the fields were left to us by Chevron, And city can charge us to use for league use. As I say, the $10.00 usage fee is just another way the city can generate money from the kids who just really want to have fun. If the city wants to generate money, stop buying property on Alondra Blvd., and building places like "Splash" and get off their tushs' and do something about the old,(Safeway/Michaels) at the Crossroads shopping area and build something that will generate tax money.

they need to tear that down...it was sitting there for many years while they forced business owners out of the Alondra center.(really harshly and rudely, by the way) they spent $ tearing down Alondra..then "beautifying" it so it wouldnt be another eyesore..and yet, that Michaels bldg has been sitting, what, 10-15 yrs? smack dab in the middle of Imperial..much more visible than Alondra was..(plus beautifying Imperial hwy!!(center divider))

Has anyone ever seen a city worker do any work? The same spot has been a flood zone for over 7 years! YouTOO you have no clue....we have parents that want to help and we always get shut down! So if the parks were costing so much to take care of why add to it and build a water park? Our city is falling apart at the top.

The city does almost no maintaining of the fields. they dry drag it like it is a race track The water jibs all leak so bad 5 minutes into watering the mounds are flooded. They have enough guys to do the work. There are alays plenty of guys in that shed monday through sunday what are they doing in there? Maybe it is time they put 40 hours a week into these fields. Instead of collecting a paycheck for hiding out with the doors closed in that shop. There are plenty of people willing to do the work down at Behringer, but when we get told not to because someone from the city will get upset, and the league might get in trouble all work stops. It is time for the city to get down there and see what thee guys do all day, it is not working on the fields. YOU TOO are speaking about something you have zero knowledge of. You sound like you do, but trust me if you think for a moment that even 1000 hours a year is spent working on maintaing the fields at Behringer you are off your rocker. If everything you said was being done this topic would not exist.

Well last year there was a lot of new clay that was over by the maintenance garage, it was setting there for some time, then it was all gone, I know that it was not used on the baseball fields, most of the time I have ever seen the people over there using the new clay for the Girls Softball Fields, when the pitchers mounds and what not have big holes and are never keeped up, it is a shame for some of the players that pitch, it is a wonder that they are even able to pitch at all, luckily they have not twisted a ankle or something, and the infield is a accident waiting to happen, the berm or grass, I dont know who many times that I have seen a kid almost get his head taken off by a ball or trip running after a ball because of it>

Also around the back stop area of the fields, they are about 3 inches higher then what they should be, the cement area around the dugouts are the same, and the pitchers warm up area on the majors field and the junior field, are a ankle twisting area also, the holes are deep, and some of them also get flooded, now the city always closes the fields over there due to rain, and some wonder why even when it drizzles, well these are some of the reasons why that I have mentioned above, because they dont want to fix the fields the way they should be, also did you know that a year or two ago, the LA Dodgers offered La Mirada the Extra Clay that they had if they would just come and pick it up some how, but did they?, no they did not.

you know what, I wonder where dan is, he always has something to say that is Negative, hopefully the last topic about the allstars shut him up, that guy didnt know what he was talking about.
But on the matter at hand yes the fields are pretty bad, i wonder if the city will start fixing the fields properly due to the city usage fee, i mean they should if they start charging individual people to use them, and i am also glad that the know where the extra money is going to or for, now we can look at the people that we voted for and re think if they should be where they are, or if we vote them out, come the next election, lets take note on who is in charge of what at la mirada city hall, time for us to rethink.
