Young Girl Struck By a Car on Imperial Highway

Around 655pm this evening 10/30/09 a young girl was struck by a car while crossing Imperial Hwy at Burgess Ave. She had come from Gardenhill Park according to police officers at the scene. It is reported she had been arguing with a young male and female at the park. The officer stated that he had told the youths to go their separate ways. My husband saw the girl walking up Burgess and noticed that she was crying inconsolably and very loudly. A minute later he heard a boom and cars skidding on Imperial. He went to see what had happened and the girl had been hit by a car. The ambulance arrived and they worked on her for about 20 minutes. Not sure of the outcome. It didnt look like she made it. My heart goes out to her family.

I saw the girl... poor thing i am about her age...i was sitting in the car...in front of her... i saw her get hit and everything....

She was a great friend and I'll miss her.
You introduced me to so many great people and even though we grew apart these past couple years you really made a difference in my life. I'll miss you and I hope your happy now.

How did this happen did she walk in front of it she didn't see it coming the paper didn't say she passed from it. my thoughts are with the family

If you saw her get hit did it look accidental or intentional? That has been my question all night if she ment to get hit or was it just an awful accident. Please reply..

it was an accident...but a hit and run

It was *NOT* a hit and run, the driver of the car stayed there the whole time. In fact she stayed there well after most of the activity was gone. I was there, I was visiting someone at the senior living facility right there on the corner, we were in the front of the building, I heard the accident but was not looking that direction to see it until after the fact, I too wonder how it happened.

I did overhear the woman who was driving the car say that she did not see her and actually heard her hit her first. It makes sense as there was no screeching or squealing of tires until after the hit and it was a hard hit. I knew immediately when I heard it that someone was hit, and it was not two cars because there was no crashing sound. Very sad, my heart goes out to her family and friends.

she told me everything..and what she wanted to do and all her problemss..the last time i tal;ked to her she mentioned to me how heart broken she was..and how much she wanted to forget about it.

WHITTIER - A teenage girl who was struck by a car while crossing Imperial Highway near Whittier late Friday has died from her injuries, authorities said Saturday.

Samantha Sandoval, 16, of La Mirada died at the hospital shortly after the crash, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Lt. Joe Bale said.

She was crossing north across Imperial Highway at Burgess Street in an unincorporated county area near Whittier when she was struck by a tan 1993 Toyota sedan that was driving west on Imperial Highway at about 35 mph, officials said.

The driver of the sedan, a 74-year-old North Hollywood woman, apparently did not see the pedestrian, according to the CHP statement.

The intersection where Sandoval was struck is not regulated by a crosswalk or traffic signal.

Sandoval suffered major head trauma and was rushed to Whittier Hospital Medical Center, officials said, where she was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Santa Fe Springs office of the CHP.
