Stupid Criminals wrote: <quoted text> Wow! Your comment is priceless. I felt so sorry for this girl's family and friends. Now I just feel sorry for her family. Just so you know ... young people are responsible for MANY more traffic deaths than old people. Does that mean that we should never let you drive? I really can not believe you. Obviously this young individual is in extreme pain because someone very close to her died unexpectedly. Show some compassion for these young teenage friends. And by the way there was a rash of accidents caused by elderly drivers this past weekend.

Such a sad end to a young, vibrant life. Tell your kids you love them and one big hug every day. Whether they want it or not!!! You never know that it could be your last hug.

My condolences to this girl's family and friends. I wish people would slow down and I do not believe that the driver was only going 35 MPH.

friend wrote: Show some compassion for these young teenage friends. Compassion? Like the compassion some of these kids have shown towards the driver and other old folks? Remember, by all indications reported so far the driver in this tragedy did nothing wrong. While it's normal for people who are grieving to feel anger along with a host of other emotions, they need to learn how to manage that anger. When you make excuses for their nastiness it only goes towards justifying their hatred of people who are different from them -- in this case, old folks. I will back off from my earlier statement, though. Some of this young girl's friends do appear to be great kids and I feel for those kids. friend wrote: And by the way there was a rash of accidents caused by elderly drivers this past weekend. This statement really shows your naiveté. Sure, there are some old folks who should not be driving, but is there any evidence that this particular driver was impaired by age or any other factor? Try looking up the stats for the leading causes of death for teenagers. Teenage pedestrian fatalities involving elderly drivers probably doesn't make the top 100. Trying looking at the CDC's stats and, if you can't find it in their data, follow the links to their references. Here, I'll give you a head start: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr56/nvsr... I'll betcha two bits and a buck, if you look carefully you'll see that most teenager mortality comes from either bad choices they make or bad choices their friends make for them. Take a look. Really, take a look. And stop blaming the old folks.

How dare he say that 10 mph can kill a person? Are you nuts? A friend of mine watched a guy get killed by a car that was only going 2-3 mph. The damned thing pinned the guy against a wall, kept bouncing back and forth against the wall, and crushed his legs so bad that when the car stalled and rolled back the guy bled to death before help arrived - even with several witnesses trying to apply pressure to the massive wounds. Samantha sounds like she was a great kid. I understand that you will miss her. Who wouldn't miss a good friend, a nice person? But cars can and will kill people if their paths cross, even if they're only going 10 mph. It's sad, but it's completely true.

"How dare he say that 10 mph can kill a person? Are you nuts?" I appreciate the backup, haha. My point was that these retarded high school CHILDREN believe they know everything and this driver must have been speeding causing their homie/homette to get ran over. Do you kids ever think that your friend possibly walked into the path of an oncoming car? I know damned well i wouldnt be walking out into the street in front of a car at night. If you understand how cars work, there are these THINGS CALLED HEADLIGHTS, AND YOU DONT GO NEAR THEM!

In 1999, when my son was ten years old, he felt strongly that the intersection of Imperial Highway and Burgess Avenue was very dangerous. He wrote a letter to the city asking that traffic signals be installed at that intersection because of the hazards there. He later appeared before the La Mirada Public Safety Commission and pleaded for traffic signals to be installed at the intersection. He was told that a study would be done and was thanked for his appearance. Nothing else was done. If the Public Safety Commission had taken my son's recommendation seriously and had traffic signals been installed at the intersection, Samantha Sandoval would probably be alive today.

When I was ten years old I felt very strongly that people should not run in front of moving cars. I told at least 20 of my friends. If those 20 people each told 20 people and those 20 people told another 20 people and so forth, well, you get the picture. The city cannot keep everybody from hurthing themselves. By the way, did your son also offer to pay for the new traffic signals?
