Gas prices soar, some drivers ignore

“This little car takes $50 to fill up.”

Gas prices hit new records in the Bay Area and the state Tuesday after reaching a new national record Monday, with some local motorists fuming, some shrugging and others despairing over skyrocketing prices. via Contra Costa Times

the middle east should be ashamed of them selves,we have made them rich over the years and the richer they get the more they want! The same goes with the oil companies they make record proffits because of us average working people,I see people go into shell stations all the time and everyone knows that shell is the highest priced around but they drive there fancy lexuses bmw's and what not so I guess they can afford it,I go to whom ever is the cheepest even if only by 2 cents (useally Arco) if everyone would go to the cheepest places and boycot the most expensive it would force the most expensive to lower there prices or go out of business,If we would all and I mean ALL OF US would pick just two days out of a week that we would not purchase gas it would send a message,We pump a lot of oil out of California go up and down I-5 you will see the oil wells in the valley areas so why are we paying so much? thats up to the governator to look in to but if you ask me its price gouging there just sticking it to us! Back east there paying 40 cents a gallon less than us why mr governator? and everyone knows that its cheeper to produce diesle fuel its actually a by product of producing gasoline so why is it 60 cents a gallon more than gas? why my governator? why mr big shit oil companies? WHY
why are you trying to ruin or lives? you know there is a cracking point for manufacturing gasoline and there is a cracking point of the american people! at some point people will just start takeing what they need insted of paying for it! I say the goverment needs to take over the oil refineries and regulate it closely gas and oil are dangerous products they pose a health and saftey risk to all americans therefore the goverment must intervein! We the tax paying people of this great nation need to not ask the goverment we must demand it after all the goverment works for us we are the tax payers if we all quit paying taxes what would the goverment do put us all in jail we need to demand the goverment do something.

who should be ashamed? Take a look at the earnings of the gas companies. they are having record years right now. Last I read it was
over $300,000,000,000.00 (combine I think) not to mention 50 cents
tax (state average) for every gallon pumped, How many gallons a day
do you think Americans pump every day?

I agree with you about the oil companies profits there much too high, but on the other side of the coin it is the opec nations that are charging 111.00 per barrel arnt they? they are just rapeing us for something that they get for free arnt they? they refuse to increase production to meet the demand of the industrial riseing china and our increasing demands so that in turn causes a shortage and its a supply and demand thing if you got not enough the product goes to the highest bidder! it gooes both ways shame on the oil companies and shame on the middle east! however the middle east should lower there prices of something they know the world needs and they get for free! they should also step up production to meet the needs of the world! then ther is the issue of IRAQ we should just start pumping oil out of there to pay for there liberation! you know this war is costing lives and tax payer dollars we should be compesated! but then that would cause the price of a barrel of oil to go down as there would be more supply and it seems to me someone dosnt want that hmmmmmmm I wounder whom that could be.

oh and this is food for thought the refineries should be taken out of the hands of private stock holders and placed in the hands of the goverment then it can be regulated for fairness to the motoring public,Also someone needs to come up with a liquid fuel as a direct replacement for gas and diesle that can be manufactured in a factory and just put these refineries and the middle east out of business.

We all know that gas prices are souring, but yet nothing is getting done about it. The goverment say's that the economy is hurting but yet I guess they don't see the big pitcher. As long as the gas prices keep going up so will the prices of everything else. It cost to transport it. So if the Goverment really wants to help out America they need to keep thier checks and use that money to give us all relief at the gas pump. There has to be a way that they can lower the prices or at least freeze them.

Yes I agree,Freeze the prices, and drop the federal tax on gas for now,As a matter of fact drop the state tax too,This would give some relife to the american people whom pay enough taxes as it is with federal and state sales tax on everything else drop it on gas.

The oil companies have just posted $$$$$$17 BILLION DOLLARS$$$$$$ Profitt from the last 3 MONTHS!!!! Money is the root to all EVIL and these guys are going straight to HEll. Hope they burn I hope every child that remotely shares their DNA burns for the rest of eternity.

It's time to do something about this people. It's time to stand up and demand our government take over the gas/oil industry and set the price. Gas should never go over $1.00 per gallon. The people in Venezuela only pay $0.13 per gallon!!!! Look up GLOBAL GAS PRICES and you will want to shoot someone. The only reason the prices are this high is because we allow them to be.

I don't know if we should target the station owners or the officials in our government that allow them to screw up so bad. I do know that they do not deserve to make $17 BILLION DOLLARS in 3 months.. or a lifetime. STOP BEING SHEEP.. START BEING AMERICANS!!! Stand up for what is right and FIGHT for what matters!!!

Got a match? I will help you round them up! We will have to pass on the gallon of gas to start the fire I cant afford it,But thats ok I hear wiskey or even lighter fluid works just as well, have a real old fashoned whitch hunt is what we need to do, string these A** H**E's up by there N**ts and burn them down to nothing why stop there the goverment is letting happen arnt they? maybe they need a lesson in economics as well or dare I say they need to feel the heat too, whats up with the pres why dont he drop the federal tax on fuel? ohhh thats a real stupid question because the higher the gas prices go the more one must spend to get the same amount of fuel the more one spends the more tax the federal gov gets these days are own states dont want to help us they wont even drop the state tax why dont we all just bend over and let thm shove it a little deeper this time ask them to use a little vasaline opps I forgot they cant afford to waste that its a petrollium based product it might cost the gov to much!
its the peoples planet it belongs to all of us oil comes out of our planet it should be a not for proffit substance the goverment should take over and regulate it, drop the taxes off you loose about a dollar on cost at the pump drop the greed off you loose around 2 bucks off the cost at the pump that would leave us hmmmm at what about 1.60 1.70 a gallon sounds about rite to me.
Just my 5 bucks a gallon worth but wait comming soon to a gas station neer you 10 bucks a gallon and its co-star 100 bucks for an oil change think its not comming wake up the writeing is allready on the wall!

The price of fuel is out of control and the government should have stepped in a long time ago and put a price ceiling on the price of feul. The government has their hands just as dirty as the big fuel companies. Ask your self this question how and the hell are the presidents of the United States so damn rich. Every Mobile station in western NY put in brand new underground holding tanks for fuel and have remodeled the buildings. The only industry that the government regulates is the price of milk. Farmers operate their business on a daily basis not knowing how much money they will get for their milk the next month. That is why so many go out of business. You will never see an oil company struggle. THEY CAN SET THE PRICE OF FEUL IF THEY WANT- WALLSTREET AND INVESTERS ARE DRIVING THIS COUNTRY OUT OF CONTROL. IF YOU LOOK BACK BUSH WAS ON VACATION UNTILL 911 HIT SO MANY PEOPLE THOUGHT THE ELECTION WAS A SCAM THEY WERE BOOOING HIM. HE DID NOTHING FOR THIS COUNTRY AND MADE NO EFFORT UNTIL 911. AND THEN TOOK THE OIL RIDE TO MAKE MONEY WITH CHENEY.

Why do the gas stations keep buying it at these prices. Why do the customers still line up for the gas when it is this high.. Because we are the ones stuck in the middle of a monopoly and OPEC is the one to blame. Bush knows how oil works.. he got all his money from working for the oil companies.. and being VERY GOOD business partners with Osama Bin Ladens brother.. Bet you didn't know that! Look it up.. Its all the truth... which we Americans are not used to hearing. Now you understand that the price of gas will not go down.. only up. Our government wants it that way.

It's time to clean out the government and our neighborhoods..

Take a good look around and see who is running all of our gas stations! And our taxi cabs! not to mention 7-11's! bush is allmost out but that doesnt mean things will change what we need to do is drop the federal and state tax on motor fuel for the summer driving season then go and take Iraq's oil as payment for there liberation, bush didnt start the war to get oil from Iraq he started it to stop the flow of oil comming out of it he knew it would push the prices up the other opec nations have said they will not increase production why? because they know that if they increased production it would cause the price of a barrel of oil to drop! they could increase production if they wanted to but they haight us so why should they all the better reasone to take Iraq's oil flood our market with cheep oil and some of the other alied nations then we wouldnt be buying as much from them so in turn they would have to lower there prices after all its something they get for free anyway doesnt the earth belong to all of us? isnt it pumped out of our earth? so why have they been sticking it to us so hard latly ask Bush he knows his whole family has been in the oil business for years and dont think he aint getting stinking rich at our expesne bunch of oil texans thats what they are Bush could do something if he wanted to hes in charge of one of the most powerfull nations on earth but all he want to do is play soldier boy Hey GW how bout helping out your fellow American rather than sticking it to us!

I hope that you all see whats happening here. There are more people in the US that do NOT care then care. I think that gas prices would make it to $7.00 a gallon before people stop driving there SUV's and find another way to work. The companies that depend on gas like the airlines and our Truck drivers are alrighty feeling the hurt, but you all don't care. Jobs are being cut all across the board due to high gas prices, but you dont care. Food is at an all time high, but you dont care. All kinds of taxes are being raised by expodentional amounts and new taxes are being invented for no reason, BUT YOU ALL DONT CARE!!!! Houseing is redicilous. I can go on and on! This country makes me sick. It needs to change its name to DSA (Divided states of america) I see people with there lexuses and BMWs at the pumps filling up with premimum but the guy behind them is driving a scooter that gets 90+ mpg. I do not care who ends up in the white house this country will not change. So you all can contunue to NOT care until your checking account says $0.00 and the IRS is taking the title to your home that has been paid off. Then you will care. It is getting to the point where something is going to happen. Take a look at this. Prices are going up for everything. The american worker is not getting paid more. Minimum wage will not go up. College tuition will continue to raise until Loaners will refuse to give out student loans. So now we have people who dont have a college edcuation because they cant afford it but need the degree before employeers will even look at ther resume so they can pay for living. People need a college education to pay for gas, food, and a house. Mortgage loaners will not even give you a loan if you dont have a full time job. There is no need to worry right you work at McDonalds full time. That will get you a 30,000 mortgage loan. I know you can find plenty of houses for that right!!! Well look at the alternitive. You can get an efficency appartment with 7 roommates.

R.R. fired the air traffic controllers what G.Dubbya needs to do is fire all the oil big wigs and do a goverment take over then regulate the cost! oil comes from the earth we all own the earth this is the peoples planet not the oil companies and not no ones we understand it cost to pump it out of the ground and process it but it shouldnt cost our whole pay check just to get to and from work a flat out 3 bucks a gallon sounds fair we Americans havent got a raise so why should the oil companies?
Just my 5.50 a gallon worth but wait comming to a station neer you very soon 10.00 bucks a gallon and his side kick 100 buck an oil change "Due to the uselessness of G Dubbya"and his band of oil cohorts.

HEY G Dubbya why you flyin around in a jet fuel guzzlin 747 at tax payers expense? in the old days a 707 worked just fine and why the gas guzzlin limo woudnt a custom Van or a custom suburban have just the same effect? food for thought G Dubbya we are the ones paying for your lavish life style!

If Americans were seriously ready to take a stand and make a difference instead of sit around and whine, like we are known to do, we would boycott gas as a country. We would make use of the public transportation we have available and demand it's improvement. I'm so sick of hearing SUV driving suburbians complaining about gas when we have some of the cheapest gas in the world and we are also facing a global crisis because of our bad habits. WAKE UP PEOPLE. TAKE THE BUS. SAVE SOME GAS, SAVE THE EARTH. Do we need to print this on a Starbucks cup for you to see it!!!!!

I purchase gas at the Arco and Shell gas stations. If you see me at the Shell gas station the reason I'm getting gas there is because Shell is conveniently located a block away from where I live. It's a toss-up as to which gas station saves me more money because the Arco gas station is located a few miles away from my home. If I drive to Arco I will be paying less for gas but I will be using more gas to drive in both directions. If I drive to Shell I will be paying more for gas but I will save time and use less gas getting home. Since gas is so expensive I make sure that when I purchase gas at Arco it will last me through the week.

Plan your trips better! go fill up for the week at Arco,if people would boycott higher priced stations than it would force them to lower there prices or go under and once the lower there prices Arco will follow suite then the whole process repeats over again boycott shell the will have to lower there prices even lower and so goes the chain reaction! I see people paying higher prices at shell all the time they think there getting better gas I think not its basicaly all the same,I drive a diesle I go to who ever is the cheepest I dont care if its thre or four miles away then I fill up it only hurts the higher priced stations.

nice posts! Here's my two cents:
Oil/gas could so easily be regulated...
if only our local and outside officials might actually represent their voters. Similar things happend with water rights untilwater was declared a nutural public resource.

So...what we do...we tell all of OPEC and BushINC we won't buy one single stinkin drop of their gas unless they agree to abide by a contract...

A utility contract
like our loacal water, sewer, garbage postal service...(price is fixed...all price changes must first be reviewed before a community ran committee. Rate adjustments allowed once every 3-5 years...depending on circumstances and must never exceed/equal the 1-5% cost of living adjustment % granted to disabled and retired beneficiaries...

we must insist upon this from those who sell our oil...otherwise...we dump them...Venezuella is more than ready to sell us fuel...it is the oil backed feds that have legislated us into this..we ourselves must take action and work on proactively getting ourselves out of this...call your reps...write em..regularly...eventually they will get a clue!
