Here, here! The City of La Grande should have a good look at Boise's Northside Hyde Park area as an example too. They have roughly the same weather and similar beautiful old, brick buildings that have been rennovated to look 'period perfect'. They have pedestrian friendly sidewalks, outdoor cafes, upscale restaurants, brewpubs, and boutiques. People ride bikes everywhere. It's really a comfortablle neighborhood.

LOL I have my doubts that La Grande would go for such thing. The cost and such. Besides They much rather tear the brick buildings down and look at vacant lots for a couple of years, before doing something about it or nothing at all. Think about it....They had a chance to save the old Middle School, they didn't. They could have done the same to the old court house, but didn't. The old libary is at risk now, now that they just built a new one. The City of La Grande is affraid of two things.....Growth and spending money on saving landmarks. I've lived in the town for 20 years. Sure it was a nice place back when I was a teen, but you get older and look at it from an adults stand point and think "God, why is everything still the same around here?" Thats what I was thinking when I returned to the area to visit. Not much of anything has changed since I moved or has never really changed ever.
The biggest changes that happened since living there are Walmart and a new Safeway. Gee what a big deal. La Grande had chance of bringing in new business' but didn't allow it to happen. There goes some great jobs for the people of Union County. Way to go. |
