Greetings, Please let anyone with kids know that soccer sign-ups are going on now at fcallianceknox.org and will also have sign-ups at Wal-mart this Saturday 08/25/12 from 9am-12 pm. A very well organized league out of Knoxville called F.C. Alliance has taken over the Campbell County league and will benefit soccer in our area. The Alliance is terrific. On Fridays the organization will be sending up their own trainers for an hour of skills training with each age group FOR FREE just to advance the skill and love for the game in our area. So please let anyone with children know in case they want to join in the fun.

I'm sorry I don't agree. I have a kid that has played the last few years for CC, and this year she doesn't want to because the website makes it seem more like soccer boot camp than a fun game. The fact that the price has gone up $20 when most of the county is below the poverty level is also absurd, especially since the entire outfit isn't even included this year like it has been previously for $40.

I am sorry you feel that way. In fact this organization is top notch. The price is in fact higher but much lower than in Knoxville and other areas. The league stresses fundamentals, it doesn't mean that the kids don't have fun. I played soccer for 10years as a child, was a referee for 5 more and now have my son playing. This is a quality organization that will bring fun and excitement to the soccer here.

And besides, as far as I know most all of the coaches are still coaching with (mostly) the same teams so how would that suddenly turn into a boot camp? I understand about the cost factor and that certainly can be an issue here but don't make it sound like just because a league that says they stress fundamentals is taking over that somehow the life and fun is going to be sucked out of the game. It's soccer. Line up and play and have fun.

I have done that thru the website and still no call from a coach. Pracatice started at the end of July last year. Whoever took over is doing a poor job in running the league. Just my humble opinion . I am sure the fca will be flooded with phone calls wanting their money back.

Hi Tiff. I am a coach and don't have my roster yet because they are having another sign-up this Saturday. Some of the coaches that have full rosters from the previous year have started practice. I don't have a full team and so I am waiting for additions. What age group is your child in? U12, U10, U8 or U6?

signed up my son today. Now we have to go register on the website. A lot about it is new, but I am looking forward to him participating in the skills on Fridays. There are some great caring coaches but admit they never played the sport and are excited the kids get this opportunity to learn skills the coach lacks.

Hello HaHa. I don't know if the league will be doing another Wal-mart sign-up or not. I don't have any information that says it will so the best way would be to sign up on their website: www.fcallianceknox.org The age matrix page on that site shows your son would be in U8. He would have to been born Aug01 or later that year to still be in U6.

KrazyT: "There are some great caring coaches but admit they never played the sport and are excited the kids get this opportunity to learn skills the coach lacks."

LOVE soccer, and WOULD HAVE loved to had my kids sign right up!.. but, say what?? soccer (or whatever coaches here you're talking about) coaches that don't know squat about
soccer will be coaching these kids that will be getting THEIR skill training ONE hour a week by those that are knowlegable and skilled from K'ville...to then leave the kids to be left with these coaches HERE that admit they have zero skill coaching soccer, the rest of the time but for that 1 hr per WK.

I'm SO glad I read this first because having done so now, makes absolutely NO sense to me to let my sons get all psyched up to go into this to find out it's for ONE hour a WK skill training and ZERO for coaching. What would be the point besides setting them up for hella frustration and failure before they get out onto the field the very first time??

My only question WAS going to be (before I read that post) "What about girls? Are they allowed too?(dang well should and had better be)-- for parents that have daughters that would love to get to play soccer (I did back in HS and we loved it - obviously didn't go to HS here, but just the same)....... but, never mind! lol

ONE HOUR a week skill training followed up with a "admittedly brain dead about how to coach soccer" coach... just wow. What a disaster. Why would you do your kids like that???

Well? If they ever get a soccer coach up here, and at the very least a decent one, let us know... we'll sign up then.

Wait what are you rambling about? KrazyT was pointing out that there wasn't soccer here when a lot of the parents were children so they didn't play and don't have that experience. Some, not all. I am one of the coaches and I played 10 years. Every good coach didn't become that way over night. They learn and grow and improve just like the players do. When I started coaching I had player and referee experience but no coaching experience so I had to learn as I went along and our team and my coaching improved thru-out the year. So for you to say: "If they ever get a soccer coach up here, and at the very least a decent one, let us know... we'll sign up then." is an ignorant comment but hey it'll be YOUR kids that will miss out.

(read all on here so far)... rambling about? Read perfectly clear to me. If they hadn't asked then I would have. Comes across to me the same way: Kids that will get 1 hr/wk training, and no coach that has any kind of skill to coach the sport.

What does your rambling about your experience of coaching soccer have to do with it? You are one of the coaches of this team that's to be up here, or not? If that's the case then why would whoever that poster is say there isn't a soccer coach here that has any skill to be so? Aside from that...'learning as you go' should be for the kids. The coach? Not so much.

Oh, and IF you are saying that you are this soccer group's coach?.. then that bit of ignorant snark you have going, I myself am just fine with MY kids missing out on, ty.

.... and, let's not even mention how in your very first post you state this 'one hour of training per week' is "FOR FREE", then in the very next someone responds that basically it's considerably more to play now then ever before, and YOUR response is basically "Oh well" with some lame excuse that at least it's cheaper then in Knox.

Essentially then this 'special skill training one hour per week' "FOR FREE" isn't free at all.

Don't mind having my kids 'missing out' on that kind of attempt to bs parents into signing up with that kind of insulting the intelligence attitude that you're dishing out "coach".. even if you're dishing "FOR FREE".

Too bad. I've got a son that already has mad skills (started at 4, and is now 10) in soccer and loves the game, and I would have jumped straight on this if it hadn't been for your attitude. Shame.

Good luck to the parents/kids, and G'nite.

I never said they were brain dead, the coaches that have not played before are doing so when other parents may not have time, they are giving the kids an opportunity no matter what. Some learning the rules as they go. Still thankful they are taking the time for our kids. Guess that concept was lost to you in what was meant in mu comment. The coach I know that told me this was excited they would have these technical classes, my comments were made in regard to the parent saying they didn't like it was like a bootcamp. This is just a great looking program.

read this after I responded, this was my exact sentiment. I am not originally from here, but I sure wouldn't knock changes happening for the better for our kids here (what seems to be that persons sentiment that it's not good enough so my kids will sit out?). Wow.

I also never said all the coaches had no experience, just the ones that don't look at the bootcamp Fridays as a great experience for the kids and the new coaches to soccer, how can this be bad for anyone?

omg it's only 20 more for a better organized program with extra incentives. When you upgrade you expect to pay more. You get what u pay for? Just admit it, you just won't spend the extra money. The program looks great and we need to put more into our kids. I'm excited "soccer time", this program looks like it can really benefit the kids, and I wouldn't care if it was a hundred or more, my son loves soccer and it's great they will have these skill events.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Taurus

You have a very high opinion of someone today. In fact, you're really impressed with them and you'll probably sing their praises to anyone who'll listen. If you meet someone for the first time now, you'll be very impressed and this will never change throughout your relationship. But try not to idealize them into something they're not.
