Drink too much water on the radio for a video game system and die, or burglarize a store and get hurt while falling through ceiling tiles, or fight the police and die and you or your heirs (who obviously didn't raise you right) get $$$= Somethings wrong with this picture. Only in America! God Bless America!

Aha. I told you last year the cops killed Ricardo. I was right. Those dirty cops tried to impress the chick cop and got all macho. Ricardo was a law student and worked at jeffy boy resig's office. He was a good man who had a chemical imbalance. The parents should have sued the treatment center that sicd the cops on him. They should have known Ricardo was not on his meds and clearly should have told the cops. Most cops are itching for a beating. Remember people that Ricardo waived a pencil at them. The cops said they felt threatened. What a bunch of baloney. 9 months later they killed Luis Guttierrez Navarro. These cops should have been fired. Rest in Peace Ricardo. Your memory lives on.

This lawsuit was purely about money. Did you not read the part where the officers involved all admit no guilt in the settlement??? Come on now, if this was about anything other than money don't you think that the parents of this person would have told the city to pound sand and taken this thing to trial??

Your feeble attempt to tie this incident to the Navarro shooting is nothing short of pathetic...these incidents INVOLVED TWO DIFFERENT AGENCIES.

Bottom line is the cops did their jobs in this matter, as determined by the Attorney General's investigation. The City settled the suit for $300,000.00 because it was cost efficient. The parents settled becasue this always was about nothing but money.

Just another "unusual" incident surrounding DA Reisig. The victim worked for Reisig, was hired by Reisig and then gets in a fight with cops and now his parents are paid off.

How many things have to happen surrounding Jeff Reisig, before the people connect the dots?

"The Yolo County Coroner's Office determined that Abrahams died from positional asphyxiation after being detained by police.

The lawsuit against Taser International will continue. A trial remains set for Oct. 26, 2010."

Why is the taser company being sued?

The City of Woodland paid this settlement...not the County. The DA is a County employee.

Because this is and always has been about nothing more than money.

"Because this is and always has been about nothing more than money"

If it was simply about money -

They would not have paid $300K
They would not have settled so quickly
They would not have added significant training classes on how to deal with people suffering from mental issues.

The fact is the actions of the Woodland police contributed to killing this person and they felt bad about it. I hope people with mental issues are safer now (from the the police) than they were at the time of Mr. Abrahams death.

Alphonso - you really nailed it. I've been trying to phrase a reply and just couldn't find the words. I know Ricardo's mom and dad and, believe me,their son was very loved and was very supported during the years of his mental illness. For someone to say they brought suit just for money is just wrong. I also know that it is standard for personnel to admit no wrongdoing for settlements, but I agree with Alphonso that all police personnel apparently have felt terrible about what happened. If new training has been instituted in the Department, then hopefully something good will come out of this tragedy.

This is another Carey Sullivan failure. Low morale, failure to train his people, poorly equipped officers, the list goes on and on and yet we continue to go down this leaderless path.

How long must we stand this incompetency! How long must Woodland be victimized by high crime rates because of a Chief that thinks it is more important to write speeding tickets then to arrest dopers.

If it was not about money than why did the family settle this matter at all? If this was actually about the officers doing something wrong why didn't the parents persue this matter all the way through trial? It takes two sides to settle. The City settled because the cost of proving that the officers acted properly would have equaled or exceeded the amount settled.

The parents settled because...?????

Are you Reisig? or do you work for the Woodland Police Department?

Here are the facts:

1. The guy (who was an employee of the District Attorney, look it up) had the cops called on him to make sure he was ok.
2. The cops knowing he was previously in a mental institution voluntarily, used deadly force.

Now you dont know much, or maybe you do and want to fool everyone.

Those cops cannot go to trial for murder unless the district attorney decides to convict them. Only the District Attorney can convict people, once again, look it up.

So the only thing the family can do at this time is sue for money. Now it is up to the district Attorney if he wants to press charges on behalf of the people of Yolo County. But guess what, Jeff Reisig is the most corrupt law official in the County, so he wont convict any officer---unless they shoot at a dog.
Who are you Working for? Are you Ed Prieto? or Jeff Reisig? Stop lying on this Forum.

Bottom line. THE D.A (Jeff Reisig) is the ONLY one who can convict criminals on behalf of the People. But he will never do that.

Probably because they are elderly and in frail health. It takes a lot to sustain through a long, drawn out legal fight. A point was made - and you have no idea, nor do I, if the settlement includes attorney fees.

Only the D.A can decide to take the Cops to trial.
Funny how people get on here without any legal knowledge just to try to mislead people as to the motives behind the settlement. You should be ashamed of yourself. But I am inclined to think they are law enforcement personnel.
Reisig is in court right now for those same reasons. A law suit against him claims he made his staff members post on blogs and threads regarding recent cases and politics i.e swear campaigns.

You post is overflowing with inaccuracy. You do NOT know what you are talking about!

I'll only address 2 of the most egregous errors/issues in your post.

1. The facts do not suppoprt murder.

2. DA's do NOT convict people.

And one question of clarification for you. Please name the type of deadly force used?

Using your logic you must be a mental patient or an ex-convict...

Your facts are BS...

First the mental health facility called 911 because this man was agitated and acting in an aggressive manner. These are people that are trained on how to deal with the mentally unstable and THEY CALLED THE POLICE.

Secondly, the police did not use deadly force as was pointed out by two investigations including the Attorney General's which was reported in this and other news sources.

Finally, this was not a criminal proceeding...it was a CIVIL SUIT FOR WRONGFUL DEATH!!! It has nothing to do with the DA. It is a CIVIL SUIT...The family made the decsion to settle for money rather than to see this thing through trial...where they would have been able to question the officers, witnesses and such on the stand...So I ask again...WHY DID THE FAMILY SETTLE IF THIS WAS ABOUT "FINDING THE TRUTH????"

So look back at your comments and then read mine...who's lying and twisting the facts?
