Why do you care? Sounds like you want the answer to be no, but it is the same as the Mexican workers. Yes, they pay all the taxes and will not be able to use the social security since they likely will never live here.

I CARE because I am paying into SS and FICA, and if these workers are NOT paying into that plan, then there is ONE HUGE reason why SS will not be available for us once we DO retire. I mean, think about it... if I get these deductions out of MY wages, why not every other worker????

Taxquestion, Obama just sunk the ship we were all riding on. Who do you think will pay for all the new gov't he is creating and who will pay China back for all the money he threw away? Worry about that, not about foreign workers.

Employers take out social security as well as state and federal taxes according to the paperwork (W4s) that students fill out, just like they do with the rest of their employees. Those taxes are naturally based on the paperwork and the tax bracket of the employee.

On an unrelated note, I'm curious to know why you think the social security taxes you're paying are going to 18-22 year old students who are here during the summer ...

"this is NC", sorry, somehow you misunderstood my post. I didn't say I thought these taxes were GOING to students. TAXATION never goes ANYWHERE but to the government that allots it and divies it out as they please. I merely stated if I am paying these taxes out of my wages, and will probably never reap the benefits from doing so, then I merely expect other hard-working individuals to pay into the system as well. The international workers take their money BACK HOME. Shouldn't THEY as well be required to pay into the system, or should they be allowed to circumvent it and take their money back to their OWN country without contributing to OUR COUNTRY?

They do use our services while here--drive their vehicles on our roads, pollute our air, use our infrastructure, why not tax them SOMEthing?

The only people truly benefiting from them are their families back home and the landlords here who gouge them $100/week to "hot-sheet" 20 tenants to a house.

Because supposedly they all pilfer from their employers since that is supposedly common in their culture (as supposedly mentioned here on Topix!)

The international students absolutely have to pay taxes. It comes out of their paychecks just as it would yours.

In fact, even if you are an exchange student with a nonimmigrant visa, who does not work or make income, you are still required to file a Federal and State tax return.

Worked in an exchange student program at a major university.

I will add, they are not required to pay social security. Reason being, they are not permanent residents, therefore, they are not eligible for SS benefits.

Thanks for the info. However, I still have the same question: Hiring international workers who take their money back home,(as opposed to hiring US citizens who pay into OUR economy), benefits OUR economy, our social security system, our citizens, etc HOW??
thanks for the info

that you gave, "Yes they do." We need to be informed so we don't all begin (or continue) resenting the foreign workers. Lots of locals think their prospective jobs (or those of their kids) are begin taken by foreign exchange students.

With roads, water systems, bridges and all forms of infrastructure crumbling nationwide, it is scary to think the basic work force money goes elsewhere instead of being spent at home. We're not the only resort area hiring foreigners--it's being done all around the US.
