Anyone know what is going on between these two?
Heard there is a fracus going on. |

I think the lack of response to this topic is based on one of two possibilities: 1. Some may fear to comment one way or the other, 2. A lack of official, useful information.
I would think at this point if you contacted Town Hall you would be told that Mike is unavailable. With the amount of stuff he handles there I'm not certain how long that would last. For other info on what's happening in Southern Shores, visit my blog at: http://southernshorestimes.blogspot.com/ |

It is my understanding that Mike has been suspended for two weeks without pay by the new town manager. It has long been speculated Mike has been on the Mayor's hit list since he took office. I do not know the circumstances behind the suspension but I'm sure it will come out eventually.

There is a significant number of rumors circulation around Mayor Don Smith. Some most likely are false and most likely many are true. Regardless, the mayor’s job as principal overseer to the town of Southern Shores is pot marked with employee harassment, failure to accomplish designated objectives, lack of administrational control, inability to sustain town member confidents in his ability. I believe that it’s time to ask Mr. Smith to step down from office and resign

I know local news stations (WAVY 10) were investigating the mayor and those close to him regarding the charges of employee harrassment last year...maybe they need to be notified of this current situation so they can turn the heat on him once again.

BTW...does anyone know what the process is to begin the recall process of an elected official (Mayor) in the state of NC? Might be something else to look into.
Yea, folks, remember me?
I talked to Mr. Read today about this situation. He denies Mike pay was going to be docked. I also understand the 'petition to recall the mayor' process is going to start this evening at the SSCA meeting. My understanding is various newspapers have also been contacted. Let's see where this goes. It won't go anywhere unless people speak up and/or sign this petition. |
I believe you will find that in the NC General Statutes, there is no accommodation for any form of recall.
Just looked it up. Has to be in the charter of the town in which a petition for a recall vote is collected. Only the General Assembly can enact legislation that would change a town's charter.
At least that's the way I interpret it. |

Mike was put on suspension, grabbed his personal items, and left. Does anyone care about WHY he was suspended, because I would like to know. Heard he was with the town for 10 years? I thought he was hired by Tom Gjettson. That was what? 8 years ago? I know the left the town before under strange circumstances when Kay Cross was town manager. What did he do THEN for him to be removed?? |
The new town manager, Charles Read, applied for the police chief's job AFTER Thad's death. He was not choosen due to the fact he was Don Smith's referral. The vote was 3-2 in favor of hiring Mr. Read by council as town manager, and the ENTIRE council agreed to his contract for employment as town manager. |
The question is WHY is council and management having to much trouble keeping employees?? Why is the council having so much trouble keeping a town manager??
The is NOT ALL Don Smith and his "possee". This has been going on for YEARS! What is the difference in this latest incident and Paul Sutherland's "possee" firing Chief Beasely and HALF the police department? Does anybody know ALL THE FACTS? Is anyone else out there as curious as I am about what goes on in our town I believe should be involved in persuing THE FACTS in this latest incident. Mike Hejduk SEEMS to be an intelligent person at first glance, but tends to trip over his own words or LEAVE THE ROOM when confronted with questions or quieries about his actions and/or motivations of different subjects involving the town. Three dollar words and entangled speaches DO NOT answer all the questions that have been presented towards him. His presentations to council and associations with the town throw him off his pedestal when he is interrupted with a question pertaining to that particular situation. It seems his WELL rehearsed dissertations cannot withstand scrutiny or the aquiring of facts about the issues brought before him. Now, I don't know if this is due to council or managements' town issues, or whether or not he is trying to pull the WOOL OVER OUR EYES. AGAIN, as justthe facts stated, WHY was he suspended from his duties? |
I don't know all of it, but the are issues in regards to what his job duties and position are versus what he has been doing the his powers as an Official of our town. Is he doing the job he was hired to do, or has he stepped over the line? |
I sincerely doubt Mike Hedjuk wants channel 10 investigating his record as well! |
I've heard for some time there are lawsuits coming up, and they will make the mob who gathered at the Pitt Center last night look pretty foolish.
Are all of your lives so desperate that you must try to degrade anyone when you have no facts to back it up. Mr. Hejduk has not been suspended. Some of you people are pitiful!
Since you've put yourself in the position of "knowledge", care to elaborate on this statement? Hejduk has not been suspended? Then he must have quit!? |
Incorrect, I have spoken with Mike and he has been suspended and without pay. Furthermore, I don’t appreciate your comment regarding our state of being. To the best of my knowledge, most if not all posts are asking for information regarding the circumstances. And your post is degrading those that are inquiring. Perhaps you should review your state of being. Should you have information regarding Mike’s suspension from office, I for one would be very interested in what you have to say. |
Sorry Missy, I didn’t catch what meeting was that ? or - when he leaves the room and didn’t answer questions ? What “WELL rehearsed dissertations cannot withstand scrutiny”? I know that you mean good, but can you please be specific. We are talking about a good person and his family’s livelihood. If there is justifiable circumstances for the town manager to have suspend Mike, then I want to know what they are. However, if this is another one of Don Smith’s power games and the action is not justified, it is abuse of power of his office and I believe that Don Smith should step down and resign his post. |
I don't think there is any comparison there, based on the fact that the State Dept. of Criminal Justice initiated an investigation based on falsified training records, which led to allegations of other improprieties (listening to citizens private conversations on scanners, etc.), I don't think the Town had a choice. The police credentials of the officers involved were removed by the State. They couldn't be employed. |
