State officials face midnight budget deadline

Full story: Long Beach Press-Telegram

California officials are facing a midnight deadline Tuesday to find a way to cut into a $24.3 billion state budget deficit and avoid the need to issue IOUs for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Spendthrifts, moneywasters, living beyond their means really describes the state of California. The carp in Sacramento don't want to cut spending our money even if they have to borrow in our names. They are spending all the taxes we pay and yet 25% more. Their solution is we pay more not to cut spending. What a bunch of loosers. If they increase our taxes we all need to cut spending and do everything possible to reduce taxes. Get rid of a car etc. IOU's now california is issuing their own debt in our name. Don't forget to vote them out asap.

The biggest stumbling block in California's progress:

"With the clock ticking toward a midnight deadline, Senate Republicans again rejected a three-bill, stopgap package this morning that is designed to help the cash-strapped state avoid IOUs."

Remember them when you vote in the next election, they caused your suffering.

Sales tax just went up again today. So we are paying more yet they still don't have a balanced budget. Income taxes are higher now yet still not balanced budget. Everyone needs to reduce their taxes..less spending, get rid of a car, reduce income taxes. Don't do anything to give the state more money. They will only waste it and spend more. Vote anyone out that wants to raise taxes. Write telling them to reduce spending and cut, cut, cut. We want less government.

And how were they going to do it? By raising even more taxes and fees. When is enough actually enough for left-wingers? If there are those of you that feel the need to pay more money to the government, feel free to do so, but don't keep coming back to us hard working Californians that do not support your feel-good social programs and hefty contracts to Big Labor. Let us keep our money. I assure you we will spend it much more wisely than the pack of thieves currently inhabiting our Capitol. Thank heaven for the good Republicans in our legislature. If it wasn't for them, the Democrats would have our income taxes up to 20%, our sales taxes up to 30%, and they would still have our state at the brink of financial collapse.

The Public Employee Unions are sick and tired of the Governor blocking the efforts of their minions in the Legislature.

Just who is really suprized by this? Did you really think they would do the right thing? They still get paid either way, and keep all their perks, so why should they care. I agree, vote everyone of them out of office next change we get.

By "the right thing" did you mean raising our taxes even more? Why is it that liberal Democrats always seem to want to solve problems by simply taxing people more? When will they take responsibility for the programs that they unnecessarily created and pull the plug on them? When will they take responsibility for all of the sweetheart union contracts they have agreed to and find a way to roll them back? Most California taxpayers feel that they have had enough and they are not going to take it any more, as was demonstrated in the last special election. It is the Dem's that are not listening to the people of this State. It is amazing that there are actually people out there blaming Republicans for the fact that our State is in a fiscal toilet. I do agree that there are some pretty lousy Republicans in office, but, if it wasn't for the rest, we would be in even worse shape, if that is even possible. Even the governor is finally listening to the people that elected him in the first place, and I have no special love for him and what he has done to help foul things up.

The sakes tax increase is a result of Measure R, something you the voter approved, not the legislators.

One has to wonder if people even read what they are voting for, or was it some colorful mailer that impressed them? I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find that people who voted for this tax did not have the slightest clue that the end result would be an increase in their taxes. Another example of how the dumbing down of the American voter is allowing politicians and special interests to rob us blind.

As soon as they sent white smoke up the chimney to signify a decision, the Sierra Club would be all over them.

If we did that, we could pay off the state deficit with the money we'd make from the tax and spend liberals.....hey then they'd be paying themselves! A closed system!

This is why people who put the blame solely on "Dems in Sacramento" (and I'm Republican) are just flat out wrong. It's hard enough to figure out the state budget, expenses, expenditures, all that, without ballot measures. Then an initiative comes along such as Measure R that adds sales tax, or a local ballot initiative such as halving the utility tax in Long Beach a few years ago, and all the planning goes out the door. THEN, the public complains politicians can't do anything right. That's true to a large degree, but it's like being a restaurant complaining about the service when you keep switching your order every five minutes. The blame has to be shared.

Well, we all know who's doing all the blaming and who's trying to get the budget passed. The same thing that happened to the bailout bill in Washington is now happening to the budget bill in Sacramento.

And in both cases, it's the Repubs who stood their ground to oppose its passage. Are they working for the people or for their own partisan interest? The answer is only too obvious.
