I pledge to not accept full time health insurance as a part time elected official. The Township has spent almost $200,000.00 to insure Board members over the past four years. I challenge all candidates for Township office to sign on to this pledge to not accept the health benefit and to work to eliminate it altogether.

I have fought for over three years to get the board to do the right thing concerning Township Board members health insurance. It will take the voters to elect people who will pledge to eliminate the insurance. I pledge to present the resolution immediately to eliminate the insurance and I pledge to eliminate the insurance.

I just talked to Herman Calkins and he asked me to add him to the list of candidates who pledge not to accept taxpayer paid health insurance.

Since I voted to get rid of board health insurance in 2004, and I have insurance already....
What go would do to say that I would accept it?
So, it is my understanding that the above individual will not accept payment for not taking health insurance?

Elimination of the health insurance also eliminates the payment in lieu of benifit.

Mr. Kauer-

Rather than spinning the words around why don't we commend Mr. Calkins for taking the pledge?

That's one of the problems with this town, people spin others words to fit to personal agendas and end up seeing people with the interest of the community at the heart of their motivation to run for office either run off or disgusted and not willing to run again.

I have submitted my petition to run for the office of a Kinross Charter Township Trustee. This decision was finalized after the Board Meeting last Monday night when Marv Bestemen tried to push through a resolution to raise the pay scale for the Supervisor to %25,000 per year, Treasurer and clerk to $15,000 per year. The Trustees would receive %2500 per year plus an additional $60.00 per Board meeting attended and $30.00 per Committee meeting attended. Health insurance may be purchased through the Twonship at he Board member's expense.
This "wording" was very careful not to mention the life insurance policy or pension plan that they currently receive. I have to assume that the prescription coverage goes under the umbrella of health care insurance.
I, too, would pledge not to accept the health care insuranace, the life insurance or pension plan.
These positions are very part-time positions. If you break the numbers down the hourly rate is way beyond what the Township pays its' other part-time employees who work many, many more hours per month than any Township elected official.
At a fairly recent public budget meeting I told Vicky that I would take her job and do it for free...and I meant it. The same holds true for a Trustee position.
And, I do not have any personal agenda nor any personal vendetta pushing me to run for this office.

Whoops - those per cent signs in front of the pay amounts should be dollar signs. Sorry, Brenda

Disgusted,

Herman, has brought a lot to light on township activities and would be a great addition to the board.
At the next board meeting the board will possibility do away with the health insurance and give themselves a raise.
The health insurance and the raises are issues that Herman will be on the front line..making sure the board does the right thing.
I am running again and think that the monies will be better used on other things.
Hope to see you in and an important member of this process.

I find it funny that everyone that is running for a township position wants to run off other peoples ideas.
Why can't anyone come up with their own ideas or plan for this community. When it was time to stand up and fight and speak your minds, most people just sat on their butts and sat there, but now its time for an election. Everyone wants to jump on the wagon.
Where was everyone when the re-call was going on?
Where was everyone when the insurance rip-off was going on?
I only know of a couple of people that are running for a set on the board that stood up and fought for this community and they know who they are and as for the rest of you, you can crawl back in your holes. That is what you do best.
If you take offence in this, I don't care.

I also think OUR township should only be run by its own community members. People that "LIVE" in Kinross Township. Not outside of the township !!!

Who is running the township that doesn't live in it? Just wondering especially if you are referring to board members.

If you are referring to employees, i don't think that there is a residency requirement. Is that maybe what you are referring to?

As far as your comments regarding the recall and insurance rip off I feel that there may be people who are running that were involved in the recall as well as trying to get rid of the insurance. and to say that people who didn't do any of those things should crawl back into their holes really isn't fair -- I think we should see what it is that they really have on their "agenda" before we judge them -- although I know that we can do worse than what we have -- because I have lived here a long time and have seen it go from bad to worse to worse still -- I think that the "new" people running should be given a chance -- you never know what you might be turning away!
