Cheryl Payne Missing From Roane Co. Since Dec. 2003

Is it possible that anyone remembers this case? Haven't heard anything about her in years. She disappeared and soon after that, nothing.

Payne was last seen at a bar and grill north of Harriman after an argument with her boyfriend. They drove off together, but then the vehicle stopped and she got out.

"Since the investigation started, we have not had any leads as to her whereabouts," says Roane County Sheriff David Haggard. "We have checked in surrounding counties and hospitals, and there is no information as to where she might be. We need the public's help."

Payne was last seen wearing black jeans, a black tank top, a white tweed shirt and a black leather coat.

Payne disappeared after getting in a domestic dispute with her live-in boyfriend near the Big Orange Bar and Grill on Hwy 27/61.

According to the sheriff's report, Payne's live-in boyfriend Terry Collins told investigators that he and Payne got into a verbal fight at their home at 1142 Mountain View Road in Rockwood the night of Dec. 27.

Collins said in the sheriff's report that Payne had been drinking beer and she wanted to go out dancing but he did not want to.

According to the report, he took her to K & S Bar and later to Big Orange Bar. At Big Orange Bar, Collins told investigators, they argued and he slapped her. They left in his vehicle. Collins said that Payne tried to get the keys away from him and bit him on the hand.

Collins told investigators that Payne grabbed the steering wheel but he was able to pull the vehicle over. Payne got out of the truck, Collins said and started walking back to the bar which was 100 to 150 yards away. No one has seen her since.

Collins said he spent the night at his father's home and called Payne's family the next day.

Jackson said the family told her that Payne and Collins had a history of violence.

Jackson said on the night of Dec. 27, Collins was driving a truck from R & R Excavating in Harriman, where he worked.

On the Monday following Payne's disappearance, Collins was fired from R & R, Jackson said.
Jackson said Collins, who lives in Crossville, is wanted in Georgia but Georgia is not seeking to extradite him.

Thank you for the article. This is the last I've heard of this case. Why would the authorities just stop looking for this woman so soon after she disappeared? Is anyone looking for her? I Cannot find a photo of her or her case listed on ANY missing persons website.

sounds right. r&r fired terry collins on the monday following her "disappearance" that weekend. what the hell happened to cheryl?
