I was at the optical store in Rhinebeck getting my eyes tested. I couldn't drive after my eyes were dilated so I had lunch and shopped. When I returned to the parking lot I discovered my car had been towed! I found out that the bank owned the lot and that after 2 hours (I was there 3 hours) they were towing cars. The lot was 3/4 empty! I think that is a nasty aggressive way to make money - it isn't to control parking availability because the lot was almost empty of parked cars. I had to find the guard then call the towing company. They sent someone to pick me up so I had to get in the car with the stranger to get to the towing company. I wasn't told it was cash only so then I had to leave my driver's license and what cash I had and go to an ATM. THis did not leave me with a "friendly upstate village feeling" I live in Woodstock and will do my shopping there from now on where I would NEVER be towed.

I am from Woodstock too! FYI, no one cares what you think or what happened to you. You will get more sympathy by telling your problems to your cats.

My sympathies, but...The bank parking spaces are clearly distinguished from the rest of the spaces with green paint. There are signs everywhere in the lot telling you these spaces are for bank parking only. Sometimes they even have a security guard posted out there. It's not surprising then that you were in need of an eye exam.

The creation of that much needed municipal parking lot (joining parking lots, creating a convenient roundabout flow) required, understandably, that the bank not be forced to sacrifice the land it owned -- and the parking it benefitted from -- so that some people could park for 3 or more hours while the bank's customers needed to do banking, which is usually a high-priority task for consumers and something that's being squeezed into the work day. I know the bank's customers are grateful for the spaces and the residents and businesses are grateful for a convenient parking lot that the bank helped to create. Park for a few minutes there, no problem. Over 3 hours? Don't be surprised that your car is gone. Optical store take note and warn pupil-dilated customers!

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Sagittarius

Tension and worry loom large at various times during the day, but it's nothing that will overwhelm you. If you can manage to keep a cool head, your nerves in check and think things through logically, you'll have a relatively smooth day. Children are a source of joy at the moment.
