How about parent teaching their children not to put someone's livelihood in peril by buying liquor underage?

Maybe we need to pass a law to have the parents fired from their jobs if their children by liquor underage.

From the time my kids were around 13 or 14 years old, I always set a small glass of wine in front of them (maybe 3 or 4 sips)at meal-time. As a family, we ate and drank wine with dinner. I have always been direct with them about the danger of too much alcohol, driving while under the influence, alcohol poisoning, etc. My youngest is now 20 years old, and none of my three kids have ever had problems with drinking. None tried to buy while underaged, and if we were home and drinking cocktails, they were always invited to try a little (maybe 1/2 a glass) and in trade, keys were given to me. That was the rule: even 1/2 a glass, or 1/2 a beer, NO driving. I have seen too many kids get in trouble with alcohol because it is "too much, too soon". They head off to college, no one around to supervise them, and they go crazy. If we let our kids experience things for themselves, and guide them as parents, perhaps they wouldn't feel so desperate to "turn 21" so they can get smashed. My only regret is not exposing them at a younger age, as they do in Europe.

It is good that the Lowell Sun supports closing businesses in Lowell that sell alcohol to people under age 21. We are also fortunate that the Lowell Police had enough detectives to stake out this one store in particular and that there were no real crimes being committed during these hours that could have been prevented by police presence (assault, robery, car theft). Every year, over four percent of Lowell residents are victims of violent or property crimes. It would be nice if ourt police force focused more on these.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Pisces

The last thing you want to do is to picking over every little thing. Instead, you have one eye permanently on the clock and you're trying to cram as many activities into the day as possible. This will be good fun and you'll enjoy keeping up the momentum, but beware of a possible tendency to become reckless or to try to cut corners in order to save time, because this will be self-defeating in the long run.
