I find it hard to believe that this Mother took no responsibility for her son's meaningless death. Yes, drug dealers are bad for society as a whole but so is bad parenting. I wish for once people would just take responsibility for their own or loved one's actions. No one forced those pills down that boy's throat. He took them of his accord and suffered the consequences. Some of the blame should fall on the dealer's shoulders but I am just sick to death of people doing things that are clearly against the law and dangerous to their health and looking to blame everyone else when things go wrong. Stop looking to blame others when the blame is clearly the one who ultimately made the decision to take the drugs. This was clearly a drug dealing charge and should never have became any kind of murder charge.

I have not lived in Mass for over 19 years and play no role in what has happened to my Dad, Ryan or his connections with political family in NH. So who ever posted that they know the D'amelio children is a liar. I am a successful Business woman and have lived am amazing life, have an amazing job, traveled the world and raised my children to be fine young men. My son will be going into pre-med in 2010. SO DO NOT ASSUME YOU KNOW THE D'AMELIO'S. You know of one unfortunate incident. Does every one know that Ryan cousin the one who stole the drugs from D’Amelio and testified against him was arrested only one week after D'amelio was convicted? And guess what he was arrested for stealing OXCY pills from a NH pharmacy. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!! He is the one accused of stealing them from Anthony D'amelio and selling them to Ryan and his friends. He KILLED HIS COUSIN and his Aunts and Uncles who are political figures in NH railroaded an old dying man to protect him and he went out and stole OXY pills again and got caught. He is the one who did this! RYAN WAS A DRUG ADDICT NOT AN INOCENT CHILD, HIS ACTIONS ALONE CAUSED HIS DEATH. A DRUG ADDICT WILL USE WHATEVER MEANS TO GET A HIGH. So if I sell a gun to someone and they kill themselves is it my fault? After as of D'amelios conviction the state reported drug-related deaths of more then 52. He lets get D'amelio charged with those deaths too. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the next to die will be related to Ryan because his whole family including his loving Mother and sister suffer from substance abuse. The cycle of Drug abuse in that family did not end with D'amelio's convention it only masked up the problems for them. Here is a new article of the family all lies!!!! Ryan is a distant relation of N.H. House Speaker W. Douglas Scamman and his wife, state Rep. Stella Scamman, both of Stratham.
Ryan's mother, Kelly Scamman, told the Herald the cause of death was a drug overdose. She said the family is stunned because the action is totally out of character for her son.
"His friends are all shocked that it was him," said Scamman. "He was the one that always told kids not to do them (drugs)."
Scamman said her son took the drugs after being stopped by police for a possible motor vehicle violation.
"He took them because he didn't want to get busted," said Scamman. "He was scared."
Scamman said she had no idea why her son had the drugs in the first place, that she never had a thought about him doing drugs.
Chief Daley's wife, Shirley, is the Stratham town clerk, and a member of the Scamman family.
EVERYONE KNEW RYAN DID DRUGS BUT LIES TO THE LOCAL NEW PAPERS TO COVER IT UP AND THAT IS WHERE IT ALL BEGINS.

Our children deserve to learn important lessons from us and to acquire important habits with our help. They need help in learning what matters to us. We want our children to grow up to be responsible adults. We want them to learn to feel, think, and act with respect for themselves and for other people. We want them to pursue their own well-being, while also being considerate of the needs and feelings of others.
Today, there is wide recognition that many of our children are not learning to act responsibly while they are young. Studies show that many children see nothing wrong with cheating on tests. Some see nothing wrong with taking things that don't belong to them.
If proper attitudes and behavior are not learned early, problems can mushroom with even worse consequences when children are older. As crime has increased, teen-age offenders have shown less and less feeling for their victims. But even for the youngsters who will never commit a crime, it is better to learn responsibility when they are young, rather than when they are older and they have to change bad habits.
The parents and teens of New Hampshire learned that the state will find others to punish for their actions. D'amelio was wrong if he sold the pills to Ryan but everyone who knew Ryan consumed them and did nothing to help him contributed to his death.
For ever action there is a reaction D'amelio did not kill Ryan. He sould definately be charged with wrongfully dispencing the drugs if he did but not murder. Ryan took it upon him self to swallow. It is sad he is gone but it is his actions alone that caused his death.
Everyone of us are subject to the same faith as D'amelio if we can be held accountable for the actions of others if they result in that persons death. If I sold a bottle of Asprin to someone who is allergic to them and they die did I kill them?
What happened her is a violation of his Constitutional Rights and if we support the action we are saying that we are willing to forgo our rights to satisfy our own anger.
Two wrongs do not make a right!!!!!!!!!!
Agree this is sad, Agree that D'amelio should pay for only the laws he has broken but do not make statements that violate our rights because you will never know when you need those rights to protect your self.

D'Amelio was convicted of dispensing a drug with death resulting. If he gave or sold a drug illegally (aspirin is legal) and a death resulted from his illegal actions, then he would be guilty. I imagine he had a jury trial did he not? That is twelve people, listening to the evidence and finding him guilty. You know, the constitional right to a jury trial to be judged by your peers.

We can STOP this: The NASPER system passed in Florida will NOT even slow down the pill drug dealers or poll millsThe dealers use up to 5 Fake ID's a day! There is a Real Time system that can Stop this within 30 days at zero cost! Its free! Bioscriptrx uses biometrics in place of ID. Its a real time program so the doctor or pharmacy will know before the dealer gets his greedy hands on the pills! This system has been around and why are we not using it? www.bioscroptrx.com

I'm at the point where I really think they want this! It puts people in prison and makes money for the state!

Martin Luther King's dream was that we would not judge someone due to the color of their skin, but due to the content of their character. I think we need to add to that quote or by their W2 form, bank staements,or net worth! What is wrong with you-who ever thinks their self-worth is based on how much money they have must be a pretty self centered person. This is nonesense!

I never toot my own horn but the statements were warrant based on the bashing of the whole D'Amelio family. We are all separate individual but everyone posting their options on here seems to think they know the family and are labeling us all as scumbags. Your comment was at least an educated one everyone else needs to get their asses back to school and learn basic grammar. A lot of the comments are from Ryan’s uneducated friends and family who are all subject to the same fait as Ryan because of the life they are chosen to live. Ryan’s death was sad but it was done at his own hand. Drug dealers should be held accountable for the illegal sale of drugs and nothing more unless they are sticking the needle in someone’s arm they are not responsible for what they do with the product they chose to buy. We often look to blame someone else for our bad decisions and that is why the world is so screwed up. Self worth starts from within. We all make choices and should be solely accountable for them. We look for praise when we accomplish things, but when we fail we look to blame others. "Be the change you want to see in the world."

There is no jury of your peers in NH,when the Judge, Public defender are friends with the family of the person who died (Ryan) His Uncle was the Chief of Police, his Uncle is New Hampshire Speaker Doug Scammon and his wife is also a politician in NH, his other Aunt is County Clerk. You honestly think you can get a fair trial knowing all this? This trial was to deflect the facts that the children in the Scammon family are drug addicts and to paint them as victims. The pills provided to Ryan were given to him by his cousin who testified against D’Amelio. Ryan’s cousin lived with D’Amelio at the time of his death and was accused by D’Amelio of stealing the pills from his home and that is how Ryan had access to the pills. Ryan’s cousin who testified against D’Amelio was up on federal charges for stealing his grandfather identity and made a deal to testify against D’Amelio to avoid jail time for the identity theft. Then not even one week after D’Amelio was convicted he was arrested for stealing OXY pills from a local pharmacy in NH. So did he learn from his cousin’s death? I would say no because it was blamed on someone else. Deflection at it finest! So do you still think he got a fair trial?

Justin Scamman, 29, of Exeter was arrested and charged with allegedly stealing prescription drugs from the Brooks Pharmacy on Route 108.

The arrest of Scamman comes about a week after the man charged with illegally supplying a lethal dose of Oxycodone to his teenage relative was convicted.

Newmarket Police Lt. Kyle True said Scamman, of 172 Front St., entered the pharmacy April 15 to fill a Oxycodone prescription.

True said police received a call from the pharmacy after Scamman allegedly walked out without paying. Scamman "told the pharmacist he had additional shopping to do and would pay up front," True said. Rather than stop at the registers, Scamman was allegedly caught on video surveillance walking out of the store without paying.

Police arrested Scamman on May 6 and charged him with a single count of misdemeanor shoplifting. He was released on $250 personal recognizance bail and is set to be arraigned in Exeter District Court on June 5.

Scamman was mentioned in the recent trial of Anthony D'Amelio, 63, of East Kingston, who was convicted of selling three 80-milligram tablets of Oxycodone to Ryan Scamman-Rawson in April 2006. Witnesses testified Justin Scamman was at Ryan's home the night he died.
