Can't say for sure but there are a lot of these head on's since the cell phone craze hit the streets. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the text message or phone use caused this accident, like so many others. No one wants anyone to die, but all of us need to use our heads and get a "hands free" head set if you intend to drive and talk. It's simple, works well and hopefully will keep your EYES on the road, even if your mind is on your phone.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as "Hands Free Texting" at this time (at least that I am aware of,) and that is exactly why all of these young people are drifting over the "double yellow" lines and paying the price. I personally witness cars and trucks coming over on to my side of the road on a daily basis on Ideal Avenue in Lake Elmo between HWY. 5 and 50th street. I guess they figure I'll pull far enough over to my right-hand shoulder in order to accommodate them. Apparently not everyone is as "accommodating" as I am!

come on...ridicolous comment...many things could have caused this accident...dozed off...grabbing something on the other seat...change the radio station...day dreaming...

And when has this "cell phone" craze start according to you

Jerami...Sounds to me like someone who spends more time texting than driving when behind the wheel!

Jerami, they made a pretty educated guess, they weren't bringing condemnation on the guy.

And to be honest, I don't think it helps that much to have hands-free sets versus just the cell phone. They're still a distraction.

Joey - if you want to look at it that way you best remove radios, heating/cooling instrumentation, no drinks, no food, and many other things because all of these provide more distraction then cell phone usage...not texting...i agree with texting...but cell phone use.

Answering a cell call does not require you to remove your eyes from the road...so unless you close your eyes while speaking I don't see the argument that cell phones are any more of a distraction then other thing done in an automobile.

Maybe you should have gear in a car that makes sure you aren't capable of moving around this way we can guarantee your eyes are on the road at all times.

Maybe the guy was rubbing his eyes...theres just as much evidence to say this as there is to say he was using a cell phone.

You cell phone nazi's are nuts. If anything bad happens you blame the person and their use of cell phones.

Nobody has determined why he swerved. Besides, the number of accidents has gone down since the increase in popularity of car phones. Glenn Beck, of CNN headline news, had a great story on this the other day.

Finally, why are you accusing and tarnishing this kid's good image just to push your control freak agenda? Until there is evidence to justify your claims, you should not slander this kid's name with false accusations.

All I have to say in response to all of this is:
Would any of you want to read these comments if it was your loved one that died? I think not. The horror that his friends and family are experiencing is more than most of us could bear so it is incomprehensible to me that anyone would pass judgement.

Were it my loved one, the last thing I would be doing is reading comments on a forum site.

And speculating on cause is not passing judgement.

When I lost a loved one, I came across many sites that contained messages of condolence and they were very helpful. Unfortunately, I was naive enough to believe that people didn't write "speculating" (if calling it that makes you feel better) comments about people who are no longer living and thus can not defend themselves. I guess that's the nature of those who only seek to comment if they no there is no opposition.

The driver of the semi was probably a black man from Chicago.

I have been on the receiving end of some of these posters as my son was killed by a car in December. It is very heartbreaking to read the negative comments, although everyone is entitled to their opinion. The driver of the vehicle that killed my son can not answer WHY her vehicle drove off the road and into the shoulder to hit my children, but the fact is she did and nothing will ever change that.

Unfortunately more people pass judgement than those that have compassion for either party involved.

Fact is accidents happen and others can only speculate as to what happens. Only those involved ever know what REALLY happens.

My advice to the family and friends that read these....DON'T read them...it only makes it worse.

My condolences to the family. I am so sorry for your loss.

What a racist thing to say. What does the color of his skin or where he is from have to do with anything. Good God!!!!! Seems everything is based on color of skin!

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Sagittarius

It's difficult to keep your mind on what you're doing today because it keeps wandering off in all directions. There won't be much you can do about this except to be aware of it, and preferably to postpone doing anything very complicated or important until you're less distracted and absent-minded. Unfortunately, you won't get very far with it at the moment.
